Of all the festive seasons, Thanksgiving and Christmas would make up high on his list. Simply because it was supposed to be a season where families gather together and meet up to share their stories, bonding over it with laughter and elation. Well, at least it used to be that way for him. Julian didn't have a big family, it was only his parents, him and his elder sister and his younger sister. The five of them were able to make up the absence for plenty though, which was the reason why the Nephilim never felt like anything was lesser when they gather together. Unfortunately, this year wouldn't make it possible for him. He couldn't go back to England because he had a whole shift two days ago and the flights bound there were all sold out, leaving him no choice but to spend his Christmas in Evermore. He had no problem with the city, but who wouldn't want to go home for Christmas? He misses his parents and Christmas was one of the times he could actually get to see his elder sister who is otherwise, staying in Australia.
And ever since the tragedy that took place a few years ago, it's the only time they were able to check in the Nephilim to see if he's doing fine as he says he is. He's guessing that he'll have to settle and FaceTime his family for this year, and hope that his schedule can be cleared out next year. While he was busy cleaning the cabinet where he stored his bow and arrows alongside other weapons in case anything happens, he realized that he's been tapping his feet against the carpeted floor for over half an hour. He wasn't usually this jittery when he's alone, so he stopped whatever he was doing and tried to figure out the reason for it. Until he realized that the living room was pretty much cold to the core, which was unusual because he was sure he had turned on the heater before. With a rag still in his left hand, Julian went over to where the heater was located and crouched down to its level to check if it's working.
The lights weren't on and he thought he must've turned it off accidentally. Another unfortunate case for the poor Nephilim who had to endure a cold night while being alone for Christmas, it wasn't turned off, rather, it was broken. A heaved sigh escaped the male as he got up and realized that he will have to rush to the stores to get a heater unless he wanted to spend his nights cold. He knew there was no way the stores would be open on Christmas Eve, and even if they were, the chances were likely high to know that it's been sold out. Yet that didn't prevent Julian from wrapping his coat around him and rushed out. At least, his car was slightly warm. And that's probably the alternative for his place to sleep tonight or for a few nights if there was no more heaters.
That was the case for Julian who was still diligently searching for a heater for about an hour already. Sighing to himself, he exited the last shop which told him sorry because they were sold out. Just his luck. "Goddammit, Julian… you're full of bad luck at this time of the year, aren't you?" he grumbled to himself and found himself slumping against the bench while listening to Deck The Halls With Boughs of Holly blaring from god knows which shop.

Honestly, the last thing she expected was to be spending her Christmas with someone else, she was planning to spend the day alone with Cloud and treat it like any other day of the year, probably watch some dumb movies and eat too much food. Instead, she had begun the day in the arms of a man she had somehow let get under her skin. It wasn’t just today, it was getting to know him slowly over the course of a few months, making little jokes that keep the day doing, hearing him passionately ramble about all the dorky things he loved. But yesterday had been the day she truly realized how much they had in common and perhaps even began to see him as a friend, someone she could think about trusting. Which wasn’t an easy thing for her and it was still a feeling she was adjusting to bit by bit. The way they stared into one another’s eyes for a moment, it felt incredibly vulnerable to her, like she was showing him a part of herself others didn’t get to see.
She smiled softly “Well you did have to go through the stress of thinking your Christmas would be ruined so” she smiled softly, scrunching her nose playfully, she was glad to be able to brighten the day for him a little and she was glad he was warm and not alone in some hotel room. “Sure...it seems criminal not to finish the series right?” besides he was going to stay another night wasn’t he? She definitely wouldn’t be asking him to leave anyway, maybe she wanted to spend more time with him and hear him talking about all his favorite things. She looked down at herself and laughed, she looked messy and like she didn’t take her makeup off before she went to bed “I don’t think I’ve ever woken up to a guy...like this” she responded in a shy voice, she’d had one night stands sure but she never talked to them in the morning and usually she would shove them off if they tried to cuddle her. Not him.
Instead of fighting off his thanks she pursed her lips for a moment and shrugged “I’m glad you’re here” she spoke softly, grinning because he still looked sleepy “I’m guessing you aren’t a morning person” she teased as she did a few stretches and started playing with Cloud. He seemed excited for the day ahead, especially because his new friend didn’t seem to be leaving yet which meant he was getting double the attention “Well firstly I need to take this little rascal out for a walk and then I can start on making us some dinner...since turkeys take a long time to cook” she nodded “You do want turkey right?” there hadn’t been time to get a gift yesterday but honestly, not being alone was probably the best gift she could have gotten. “There’s a shower in the spare room” she spoke as she got up and lingered in the doorway of her ensuite bathroom just to watch him a little longer.
He has always spent his Christmas with his family. Even when he was still performing his duties in the military, they were never active enough to on a few routes aside from being the extra defense for the new bases, so they were given a certain period time for the holidays. He always had dinner with his parents and sister, then they would visit the others, he would talk to his cousins and despite not being a big family with a lot of members, it was a heartwarming get-together session for all of them. Especially him and his sister, considering they are almost always apart from the family, with his sister situated in Australia and him in America. But the time he spent with Nora on Christmas Eve makes up for it, he didn't know how to describe it, but seeing her eyes lit up with happiness as they continued to talk about their interests and hobbies, hell he couldn't forget the time he had the opportunity to lift her up so she could put the finishing touch on the tree. Yeah, that part was unforgettable.
So was the part when she allowed him to hold her hand. And… cuddle her in his sleep. He wasn't trying to be ahead in this but he was positive that if Nora felt uncomfortable with that gesture of him pulling her close until she was flushed against his body, she would've said something or even pushed him away because that's her. She could do that and Julian would've expected it. But she didn't. It must mean something. "My Christmas is not ruined, thanks to you" he chuckled and ruffled his messy hair in attempts to make it look presentable. Semi-presentable. "Is that another invite, Miss Nordstroem?" he wiggled his eyebrows playfully, purposely trying to tease the dhampir, if they could tease one another and crack up jokes, then maybe things are better than he expected. Nora looks just as pretty, even if she didn't take off her makeup or whatsoever. She still looked radiant to him and he was trying his best not to look like a completely different person aka don't look like a lovestruck puppy.
"Am I the only guy you allow to cuddle you like that? I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable… it was just a reflex, I felt warm and you… were yeah-" how was he supposed to explain that to her? "I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable." Secretly, he was thanking all the heavens above that she did not attempt to kick him out. "Nope, not a morning person… even though I have to be by the hangar very early… but that's because I never actually go home if I have work the next day so, you can blame my unethical sleeping schedule" Last night was one of the best good night sleep he ever had in a very long time. "Yes, turkey sounds fine, Len. I don't have any allergies either so you can basically feed me anything edible. You have to let me help you in the kitchen though, don't worry I'm a decent cook, for a bachelor of my age at least" technically, he was quite young still but he never felt like it.
"We can walk him together if you want" he pointed out and at that precise moment, Cloud barked, "See, Cloud wants it." He nodded with a small smile as he tried to make the bed before he could get back to the spare room, it was only right for him to do that. While his hands were still smoothing out the edges, he chuckled because he could sense her presence by the doorway, "I know I look like a mess, Len" he turned around and ruffled her hair gently, "I'll be in the spare room then."
Her lips parted in surprise when he said she had saved his Christmas and she then closed them and smiled, she would take the compliment because it made her happy to know that he was having a good day because of the choice she made “Good” she spoke softly “I wish I could have gotten you to your family though” he spoke so highly of them and she was sure he wanted to be there right now. Maybe a small part of her was glad he wasn’t because it meant she wasn’t alone but that didn’t mean she didn’t want him to be with them. She had this view of a perfect Christmas being with a family that loved you, but she didn’t have that. It didn’t mean she didn’t want others to have that though. She shrugged slightly when he asked if that was another invite “I’m not kicking you out if that’s what you’re asking” perhaps she was hoping he would stay a little longer, after all, he probably wouldn’t be able to get a boiler repair until at least 2 days from now.
She felt herself getting flustered and her cheeks warming a little when he asked if he was the only guy allowed to cuddle her lie that, she cleared her throat but smiled softly “I’d tell you if I was uncomfortable” she responded pressing her lips together for a moment, he didn’t need to explain himself, it was probably a reflex in his sleep anyway and she had allowed him to come into her room and fall asleep there. “It was nice” she spoke softly, barely loud enough for him to hear because that was a vulnerable confession for her. “Me neither” she responded when he explained he wasn’t a morning person “I’m definitely more of a night owl” she added and shrugged, had to be when you were out making sure the streets were safe most nights. “I think if we’re going to have any hope of having a good meal today I’m going to need all the help I can get” she responded and chuckled slightly, accepting his offer for help in the kitchen.
She laughed when Cloud piped up at the word walk, he definitely understood what that meant “Well if Cloud demands it then we’d be smart to meet his needs right?” she laughed gently, she wouldn’t mind the company for a winter walk “Did you bring a coat? It’s pretty cold out there today” she mused, smiling at the way he tried to make the bed before he started sneaking out towards the spare room “A mess wasn’t the word I was thinking of, Jules” she teased, maybe she could get used to this nickname. Once he left she closed the door to the bathroom and undressed before hopping into the shower and washing herself down. She was thinking about how things had felt like they changed in the last day as she showered and then got out before combing her hair and then heading into the bedroom in her towel to pick out something to wear for today.
It was sweet of her to want to get him to his family for the holiday, but the fact that he didn't have to spend it alone was more than good enough for him, "Don't worry about it. I dare say that maybe it's better for me not to come home to my sister's nagging who will keep asking me the same question she had asked for the past year at every family gathering" he rolled his eyes, he was definitely grateful that he was able to escape that by the very least, he cleared his throat and tried to mimic her voice too, "When are you going to find yourself a girlfriend, brother? You can't seriously be a single toad forever can you?" He couldn't help but shudder at it, "Yeah… god knows I ran out of excuses and reasons to tell her why I'm still like this." What was he supposed to do? Stick his tongue out at her? He'd score a few childish points, that's for sure. "Besides, I think my Christmas this year will be exceptionally unique and that's a good thing. I should be trying out new things" like Nora, she was a new person in his life and Julian intends to keep her around if he could.
"Good… because I think I won't be able to dial them until after two days." He was grateful to have her extend her invitation to him like that. Julian has never slept in the same bed as a woman aside from that of his former fiance, so no he would not normally cuddle people in his sleep either. Unless he intended it to happen so maybe reflex is not exactly… reflex. But Nora didn't need to know that. What she said after that was barely audible but he was able to gauge a bit of it which made him grin, it was nice, indeed. "You and me both. I stay up all night but then complain when I can't wake up early... " He probably should fix that sleeping schedule of his, soon. "I'll have you know that even I trump my sister in cooking" he puffed out in pride, "My mother compliments my cooking a lot better than my sister's. So I won't set fire to your kitchen… accidentally, at least" but would she set fire to his heart while doing so? God knows.
Julian hoped his heart was strong enough to withstand whatever fleeting moment he will have today or else he was sure his knees would give out. When asked if he brought a coat with him, he nodded, he brought an extra one when he packed up yesterday, since it was still winter, "I won't freeze if that's what you're worried about" he jested playfully and saluted mockingly before walking out, but not before sparing her a glance before doing so. Jules, he could really get used to that. Once he entered the room, he closed the door behind him and quickly stepped onto the shower after stripping down. As the shower was turned on, he could only smile to himself like an idiot who just got a confession from his biggest crush, "You're fucked, Julian. Totally and utterly fucked." But the stupid grin on his lips begged to differ. Not long after that, he wrapped a towel around his waist and dried his hair before stepping out to pick some clothes from his bag.
She smiled, laughing under her breath when he talked about how his Christmases were usually filled with his sister nagging him “It sounds like she cares about you a lot” she teased with a pointed look. She didn’t have anyone who nagged her about those sorts of things and she didn’t get to have family gatherings so she was a little jealous, even though he was complaining about it. “A single toad?” she lost it at that, laughing slightly and shaking her head, she wasn't the type who hopelessly needed to be in a relationship though “I think she should be more patient, everyone figures their life out at their own pace right?” she offered him a half-smile “And there’s also nothing wrong with being single, I might add” she pressed her lips together, if you couldn’t be happy alone then there was no point in trying to fill that void with another.
“I definitely won’t forget this one” she commented when he said his Christmas would be unique, that was one way to put it given that it all began with a broken heating system. She nodded when he said he would need a few more days before he could go home “Well as you can see, there’s plenty of room here, you’re welcome as long as you need” she didn’t like the idea of him going back to a cold apartment, especially this time in the winter. She grinned when he admitted he tended to stay up late a lot “Do you play games?” she asked it curiously raising her brow “Sometimes I stay up to play on my PlayStation, I like games with really long and complicated stories” it was as good as watching a movie to her, she especially liked the Final Fantasy series. His pride for cooking made her smile “Well I’m not a bad cook but I also usually don’t have time to make big meals” she smiled sheepishly, well it sounded like they could figure it out together.
“Good” she responded when he said he wouldn’t go cold. Before long she had finished her shower and was picking through her things to pick out an outfit to wear. Normally she was so decisive about what she would wear but today she found herself pondering for a moment, wondering if there was something which would make her look nicer. She didn’t even think much about it but it seemed like she was trying to impress him. Before long she picked a nice pair of blue jeans and a long sleeve top which she pulled a soft cashmere sweater on over the top. She then got out her makeup and headed over to the mirror, doing a soft look which wasn’t too much but enough to put some life into her skin. She stared at her perfume bottle for a moment before spraying it on her wrists and neck and sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror. This was new for her, feeling nervous about what someone would think about what you wore or how you looked.
“We love each other” he affirmed with a smile, that was probably something he could never give up on, no matter how much people ask him to. His bond with his sister is of another world and he couldn’t pick if it involves her. His cheeks were flushed when she said that again, gosh a single toad sounded so offensive, even to him, and he wasn’t offended by a lot of things, even though it’s from a sibling of his. “I cringe… so bad. I can’t believe the audacity she had in her to call me, a single toad. Just because she’s engaged and is about to get married god knows when, doesn’t mean I’m living a miserable single life.” Being single is hardly a crime. He would rather wait for years for the person that was suitable for him than settle for less. “If I find my one, then I find her.” With his eyes leveled with hers, he wasn’t sure if he was trying to send her a message or not. Maybe just a bit.
When she said she won’t forget this one, “Good, because I won’t.” She was kind, of course he knew that, when she extended her hospitality by inviting him to stay for as long as he wanted, he chuckled because god knows he wanted to continue being so close to her like this. But once everything is fine, he would bring himself out, but never out of the equation. Never that. “You’re a Final Fantasy girl huh? I don’t play games unfortunately, but maybe you can introduce me to them. You seem like you have a lot of experience.” He was definitely open to new things, especially if Nora was the one who would be teaching him. Why not? Spending quality time together, that sounds like the best offer he’s been given right now. “I have a PS4 but I never got my way around to play it. It was a birthday gift by my former roommate but I never played them,” it was a big waste considering the Nephilim hardly even had time to go home and sleep on his own bed, much less spare himself a few hours to play games.
“I’m 26 but I feel like 62 from my lack of life…” He wanted to impress her again, maybe by showing her he could be a good cook, good food is the way to a person’s stomach and a person’s stomach is the way to their hearts, no? He opted for a simple long sleeved black shirt and jeans, with a windbreaker as his outerwear. He had dried his hair earlier and decided to go with the slightly messy outlook and only combed a bit before staring at the reflection in the mirror, he’s never thought much about wanting to make sure he looked handsome. Until now. “You look okay, Julian” he murmured and cleared his throat, practicing a few lines in front of the mirror before waiting at the living room, with Cloud plopping over his lap. “Waiting for your miss too, Cloud? Me too.”
She smiled softly, honestly hearing about his family and how much he cared about them was really uplifting to her, as someone who never had a good upbringing and relationship with her family, she was glad others didn’t have to experience what she did and had people to support them and care for them. She was laughing at the way he described what his sister had called him and how he seemed to be a little jealous that she had managed to get her life together while he was still struggling to figure things out but she did go quiet when he spoke about finding his one, because the way he looked at her when he said that made butterflies appear in her stomach. She smiled at the idea of showing him some of her favorite games “Oh I think you’d love then, the stories, the graphics, everything just comes together so perfectly” she loved those kinds of stories and she was sure he would too.
“Careful, I might have you getting addicted to that poor poor neglected PS4” she joked before the two of them parted. Usually, she would rush more getting ready but this time she actually put thought into how she looked and even checked herself in the mirror, tucking her hair behind her ear and then smiling in her reflection. Maybe a smile looked better on her than she thought before, she realized she hadn’t laughed or smiled like the way she did yesterday in a long time. Before long she shook her head realizing she was wasting time so she grabbed her coat off the hook and headed out into the apartment. She smiled seeing Cloud and Julian cuddled up together “Looks like someone found a new cuddle buddy huh?” she grinned slightly as she made her way closer before jerking her chin to suggest he follow her.
They headed through to the hallway where she put on her shoes and grabbed Cloud’s leash before affixing it to his little collar and smiled “We won’t take him too far but he loves going to the local dog park, hopefully there will be some friends to keep his attention” she spoke softly as she looked up at Julian. He looked nice and he smelled fresh now that he had a shower, his hair was still a little damp and without any product it looked like it would dry a little fluffy and soft. “Are you an animal person?” she asked curiously, he definitely didn’t have any pets but she supposed that was because of the same reason he was rarely home. She didn’t have to worry too much about that because she did have a sitter who kept Cloud company when she was away.
Julian knew Nora didn't have the family he did, and a part of him wanted to share how it feels like to be surrounded by people who love her, even if it's just a small hint of it. He will always be grateful to be born into such a family who believed that family is above everything else. "Maybe one of these days, in the near future, whenever that may be, you'll get a chance to meet my family. I'm sure they would love to meet a friend of mine, especially my sister. She will probably drill you to expose something embarrassing or equally annoying about me." His sister likes to annoy him by going to his friends and his mother likes to talk to them. To anyone, really. Make no mistake, when he stared at Nora, he knew he wanted her to know that he meant she's a potential person to being his one, even if it's just his stupid little crush. What's important is basically his feelings anyway. It wouldn't hurt anyone if he kept it inside, no?
"Sounds promising" he pointed out when she told him he'd like the game, "Maybe next time you can show me exactly how enticing the game is" Was that a silly attempt at him trying to see if he could score another day to spend with the dhampir? Maybe. She never really rejected him so he was still… trying. "I haven't touched the poor thing ever since I received it so maybe being addicted to it is exactly what I should be showing it. I have to make sure I don't neglect it forever." It would help to see him finding another hobby that doesn't consist of him sketching and jotting down minimalistic notes on his journey on how to better modify each aircraft model as if he was gearing them up for battle. Not that it's particularly a bad thing. But having more than one hobby would do him some good. He always wanted to look decent, but he still never really cared much about his appearance most of the time because he would end up looking very messy from all the works in the hangar. But for Nora? Today, he was not going to the hangar and he's spending his time with her, how could he not look like he was trying?
So a few minutes longer of staring at his own reflection in the bathroom mirror was the least of what Julian did. By the time he was fully dressed and ready, Cloud had already made his presence known by jumping on him. Not that he minded the fluff, he seemed to form a liking towards the Nephilim and Julian couldn't be anymore relieved. "Careful, Cloud might start to think that I make a better cuddle buddy than you. What would you do then?" he jested teasingly and trailed behind her with the dog. He nodded gently when she talked about bringing Cloud to the dog park, "You never thought about getting Cloud a new friend? Or sibling? Uh… adopted sibling somehow?" The house was spacious enough to house a dozen… or two. But he wondered why Nora didn't think about getting another one to keep her beloved pet company. "I have a soft spot for dogs… and sugar gliders. Weird combination I know but yeah… I wanted to have one but I am rarely home… I didn't want to neglect them by being a bad owner so, dreams stayed dreams. Do you have other pet preferences aside from the little guy?"
He definitely seemed like the kind of person who thought ahead a lot which wasn’t something she really did, she was a live in the moment and process everything as it comes kind of girl and then here he was talking about meeting his parents. She smiled politely and chuckled “Are you sure they wouldn’t have read all about me and my family and tell you to run a thousand miles?” it wasn’t like she could go anywhere without being reminded of the person everyone thought she was. The way he talked about his sister made her chuckle though “So she likes to get dirt on you for the next time you argue over something?” she grinned, it must be amusing to have a sibling who you were both close to but also argued with, she’d never really experienced a bond like that but she could tell how fond he was of his sister by how often he mentioned her.
She looked over at him when he suggested that she could show him the game, she didn’t answer but she gave a wry smile because she knew what he was doing, trying to make future plans, she could applaud his determination that was for sure. “Well that sounds awfully sad, like a shiny new toy which the child never chose to play with” she supposed games consoles were much like toys for adults, just with more variety. After he left the room she was left thinking about the situation she found herself in, she had told him last night that it would be better if he stayed away from him and yet that hadn’t seemed to change the way he had been with her. If anything, he had only tried to get closer and she had allowed it, it felt nice having his hand in hers and while nothing really happened they did wake up in one another’s arms this morning.
What confused her most was that there was a part of her that wanted to let him in and let him get closer to her and she was a little scared of what that might mean for her. She decided not to let it bother her too much today though and to just enjoy spending time with someone she actually didn’t mind the company of, whatever happened, happened and she would deal with the aftermath later. As she headed through the lounge she laughed when he warned her that her dog might turn out to enjoy his company more “He’s more loyal than you give him credit for” she teased back with a sly grin before setting up Cloud’s leash and then heading out of the door, closing it behind the three of them. As they started to walk she pondered his question about getting Cloud a friend “I’ve thought about it a few times, but honestly the process of getting him took so long that it’s a little off-putting to do it again” she laughed softly “I’m sure I will eventually, but I’ve only had him about a year” which meant she had been through the whole training process from puppy to adult.
She raised her brows when he mentioned his liking for sugar gliders “Those are pretty cute” she responded with a soft smile “I heard they’re pretty friendly too” she commented and looked down at Cloud as they walked, he was such an energetic and fun dog “Not especially, I just like having something to keep me company” she smiled softly “He’s an excellent listener” she beamed slightly “But maybe someone to keep him company wouldn’t be a bad idea” that way he wouldn’t be so lonely when she wasn’t home. “Who knows, maybe if you stick to the pact, a sugar glider could be coming home with you before you know it” she smiled softly.
When she said that, Julian cleared his throat and grinned sheepishly, "My father doesn't read as many tabloids but even if they know about their only son befriending Eleanora Nordstroem, I think they'll trust my judgement before anything else" he reassured, they never questioned the type of people he kept close, not before and he didn't think they'll try to interfere with his life now either. He's a grown man. The youngest baby in the family, sure. But still. "They'll trust that if I like Eleanora Nordstroem, they should give themselves at least one reason to do the same." His sister really did embody the whole older sibling picture, "We make each others lives miserable but that's the sweet thing about it. It's not gonna be something you can just find anywhere else, no? We scratch each other but at the end of the day, when I need her, she's gonna be at my beck and call." Because of that, he is lucky to have such a loving family.
The wry smile she had plastered on her lips made him chuckle nervously as he attempted to play cool, did she notice what he was trying to do? "I'll end up playing with it one way or another. But yes, very sad" he nodded in affirmation, he needed to manage his timing better if he wanted things to be good. He knew exactly what he wanted with her, his crush never went away and though he is vying for her attention all this time, friendship was something he didn't think he'd be able to acquire. Until yesterday. Now he's going to work harder to maintain that. He wished to get closer and if she would allow him, then he would do so. He wasn't about to give up easily. Not now. If he gives up before he's even rejected, then what's the point? It would only prove he wasn't even committed to this, in the first place. He was having a good time with both Cloud and his owner, a part of him wanted to stick around longer than intended and he felt guilty over that. There were times when he reminded himself not to think too much into her hospitality, this was something she would do to others too, he said. But maybe, just maybe, he's a bit more special than others.
"I'm sure he is" he cooed and kissed his nose when Nora exclaimed how loyal Cloud is. "You raised him from pup, then?" That's quite the experience, seeing your beloved pet growing up in front of your eyes. He would love to do that again. The last opportunity he had was with his family golden retriever dog, and he was away in boarding school a lot back then. "Sugar gliders are high-maintenanced but they're cute" he chuckled, he could picture one or two perching themselves on his shoulder cutely. "So you're pondering over the idea of getting him another company?" he raised his eyebrows questioningly, maybe he could even get into the prospect of having a pet too. "Hear that Cloud? Maybe you'll get a girlfriend" he teased and petted his head, "When I get one, I'll let you name it" he mused wryly, giving her the honor seemed good enough. "I mean… I was gonna call her Nora but one might sue me over the copyright" he jested.
It seemed like he knew his family and how they were really well which was nice to see, she definitely got this sense of how close they must all be despite only meeting him “The idea of that is almost foreign to me” she confessed with a an amused shake of her head “You sound like you’re close with your dad” she commented wondering if maybe he would talk about their relationship a little, it seemed like he got along with all his family. She raised her brows when he talked about his relationship with his sister and how they were constantly picking at one another and yet were always there whenever the other needed them “And you for her no doubt” she commented with a wry smile, he was really soft when it came to people he cared about, that much she noticed.
Every time that someone tried to get close to her she had this defense mechanism which usually scared them off, she wasn’t the kind of person who had their life perfectly together, she had a temper, she could be harsh and cold at times, sometimes she just wanted to be alone and not talk to anyone. She wasn’t the type of person she expected other people to want to be with because you only had to Google her name to know that she had baggage and issues which were unresolved. It was just easier not to let anyone get too close and end up disappointed with who they ended up with than to get her hopes up and eventually still end up alone. Most people took heed of her barriers but he didn’t seem fazed by them at all, if anything it only seemed to make him more determined.
Her eyes softened a little as she watched the tender way he interacted with her pup which made her smile gently “Yeah...which wasn’t easy believe me, he was a little menace at first and always wanted to steal my shoes” she had to replace so many pairs because he would chew on them, leaving the chew toys she left out for him completely untouched. “Nowadays he’s learned to behave much better, though he still has his mischievous moments” he was walking pretty well today, not pulling on the leash and following at her side where he was supposed to. “Do they have special diets?” she questioned curiously when he said they were high maintenance, she imagined because they were exotic animals they had special requirements for vet care too “He does seem like he’d enjoy the company” she admitted as they came up to the gate of the park and stepped inside. Almost immediately she spotted one of Cloud’s usual buddies and waved to the owner before letting him off the leash to go play.
“Such an honor” she commented when she picked up on his comment about naming her sugar glider “Though that when sounds like a bold statement to me” she teased with a smile, it seemed like he was tempted to get one “And she will definitely sue” she responded and winked “Maybe you should get two though, so they could keep each other company when you’re busy” if they could be in pairs that is, she didn’t know much about them.
A small smile was spread on his lips when she said he seemed to be close to his father, "I am" he nodded in affirmation, "my dad was practically my role model when I was a kid. When everyone else wanted to be a firefighter, I wanted to be my dad. It was so cheesy and corny but my dad was always so proud to say his son responded with that whenever someone asked him what his ambition was. He's an engineer too, but more on civil engineering rather than aerospace." In a way, he fulfilled that childhood ambition of his; to become an engineer like his father. "I don't have a big family but every festivity is definitely well celebrated with just them." His mother, father, and sister. With their family dog. That was enough for Julian. But the thought of expanding their family did come across his mindscape sometimes. Maybe in the future. When he meets the right one again. He likes to think that he had a very good family that most people would die to have. He would be more than willing to share that love with them too honestly.
The first time he met her, she didn’t give off that cold vibe, but he figured that was because she came down to see them. But before that? He hears stories and rumors about her that sure made her look unapproachable but it was hard to believe that when he knew her better now. Dare he say, he had the chance to get to know her better than most people. She is intimidating, there was no point in denying that, her aura is very strong and independent which honestly makes her even more attractive. For someone who knowingly has a small crush on her, Julian sure was ready to list down the reasons why he was attracted to her. He wasn't sure if it was even considered small at this point. He didn't want to give up and she gave up trying to push him further, so when she gave him the opportunity to come in, he took it. He only wished the door wouldn't close behind him, because the Nephilim wished to know her more.
"And exactly how many shoes became his victim, dare I ask? Such mischievous pup probably made a lot of trouble hm?" he teased and made faces toward Cloud who only barked back happily. "Probably didn't even spare the chew toys a glance" he added. Why would he? When he had expensive shoes to chew on? "How mischievous is he actually? On a scale of one to ten? Has he done anything… too rebellious?" Considering how spoiled he seemed to be, Julian was naturally curious to know the extent of his antics in the spacious place Cloud called home. When asked if sugar gliders had any specific diet, he shrugged casually, "They're not too picky if you train them right but they can't eat everything. I guess it's like trying to offer a dog chocolates…" not necessarily a good choice to go with, considering the ingredients inside the said sweets. "Not the kind of pet you can have if you are not going to be at home. But if I do good on my promise, maybe there's a high possibility for me to get them" was he looking forward to it? Yes. It's a change. A good change.
"Monthly checkups to the vet too I imagine." He had a wide smile when he saw Cloud joining his other friends, "Talk about ditching us…" he shook his head playfully. "Well I'm here with you, can't get anymore bolder than this, I'm afraid" he winked, usually he would've shied away but he didn't want to stop on his advances, not really. This wasn't about to be a wasted opportunity. "Oh is she now? But there are so many Noras in this world, how could she possibly know I'm going to name my precious pet sugar glider after someone I like?" he purposely raised his tone to make it sound high pitched before he realized what he said. Right, that slipped out. The part about liking her. He was sure she knew that he liked her but to say it out loud again, he just wanted to bury himself right there on the spot. "If one is Nora, what name should I give the other buddy?" B for an effort to divert the attention away from the embarrassment he felt.
