Weeks passed by, by the time Irene finally got time to even think about anything else that wasn’t about closing another partnership deal, it had been a while. The blonde was still, once again, busy with her work. But she didn’t forget about the one thing that kept bothering her all this time; Mira Harridan. It was hard to forget about the woman who tried her best to destroy and ruin every single thing you’ve built all these years. Her blood, sweat, and tears went into building Unruly Eve into the corporation it is today and she would be damned if she let her nemesis take it down easily. She remembered venturing to a shady shop, Maddox Mediums, where she eventually struck up a decent conversation with the owner itself; Abraham Maddox. It had been somewhat a surprising encounter because she didn’t expect to find herself in such a place. But Irene ended up enlisting his help for a small curse to be sent over to no other than Mira herself.

She didn’t know why she didn’t want to send it herself but something just stopped her from doing so, maybe she didn’t want to dirty her hands, so she tried to have someone else do it. Either way, the progress of the curse took place and she can’t say she wasn’t pleasantly surprised. She didn’t receive any threats for once which made her wonder if something happened to Mira or if the curse made her go crazy enough to drive herself off. So what she did was text Abraham to see if they can schedule a meeting because she really wanted to see how the curse goes. That was two hours ago, she even finished everything fast, by the time lunch break comes around, Irene finished the work she intended to finish today.

As she closed her laptop, the blonde fished out her phone from her pocket and typed a message to him, “I’ll be by the restaurant in 20.” Now why would she pick such a public place to see something that could be quite morbid? Probably because the owner there knew her and she could easily get a private place, a much more private one that was hidden from the public eyes. She spared a small smile to her secretary who is also her personal assistant, who smiled back, Nadia’s relationship with her was a rather complex one. 30 years' worth of trust right there. Today, she was dressed slightly more casual than usual, grey slacks and navy blue blouse. Her hair was shorter after a quick trim and despite looking slightly more tired than usual, she was happy to close a few more deals. Once a businesswoman, always a businesswoman.

Before long, the summery air greeted her as she made her way to the restaurant at the next block. “Good afternoon Liana, my acquaintance will arrive any moment now, once he does, can you please guide him to the back?” she asked and the young girl nodded enthusiastically, “I will do that.” Thankfully, Irene had told him to just say her name under the reservation. Now what’s left is just to wait for the man in question as she took a seat at the booth at the far back, with her tablet in her hand as she reviewed the monthly stocks report, as usual, work can never truly escape her. Or the other way around.

At first, Abraham couldn’t deny the excitement that he felt when he placed a successful curse upon another individual; so much so, when he didn’t have any other responsibilities or other commitments he had found himself agreeing to - he found himself following around this stranger to see the curse in action. He was impressed, for such a small curse it had seemed to be working wonders, at least for the couple of days he followed her around the City; but of course, like many things, Abraham found his excitement and his attention span begin to fail - after all, he had known it had worked and from the first few days, he couldn’t see anything to suggest that anything had or could go, completely wrong. And so, he stopped his chaperoning without even a second thought; he had kept his promise to Irene - at least in his eyes only, the girl had not died and by day seven of the curse taking effect, she would return back to being normal.  At least, so he thought.

Once he had stopped keeping an eye on her, he had not really paid much mind to her; his life had returned back to normal, such as running his shop, now without the competition and hatred of Bexley which he surprisingly found himself missing. He would call his family in Budapest to keep them updated on his life and what was happening in the Coven at home, as well as keeping up on any gossip on Christian. So when his phone buzzed and her name popped up, he actually had to try and place her name; which was surprising considering he really didn’t have many people in his phone for numerous reasons. Yet, when he did place a face to the name, Abraham couldn’t help but smirk as he remembered the few hours they did spend together. “She’s finally chasing it up” He chuckled to himself.

Abraham noted the restaurant she was going to be in along with the time and began to get ready; despite not being a very social creature, he did enjoy such spontaneous trips like this one. Yet, if she was going to ask for an update on what they had done, he couldn’t say he truly had one; considering he didn’t exactly see the curse right to it’s expiry date. Either way, he supposed they could always chase it up, and be underwhelmed by what the victim was up to these days. Abe waited at the restaurant for a few moments before the host approached him. “I’m dining with Irene Farley this evening” His brows furrowed as he hardly recognised his own voice or phrasing of words, especially as the place wasn’t as prestigious as others he had seen in the city. “I was beginning to worry you would never call” He teased the blonde as he pulled out the seat opposite her with a crooked grin.

As soon as she took a seat at the reserved booth, the first thing she did was put her tablet on the table and crossed her legs, leaning against the soft cushion while her green hues eyed the information scribbled on the screen. She did wonder what happened to Mira, due to her heavier and more hectic schedule over the past week, there was no way she could've checked in for any updates. Did she trust him to come and update her about it? Not really. He had his own schedule after all. The last thing she would ever expect was for a full detailed report. At this point however, the blonde didn't want a report, she only wanted to know how the wretched girl is doing. Yeah, just that. Not that it bothers her to know if the girl succumbed to her curse and died or something. Nope. Nothing of the sorts at all.

When he finally arrived, Irene averted her gaze up from her tablet, placing it in front of her and finally put the voice to a familiar face. "Please, take a seat" she gestured to the seat across her, her tone was anything but hostile but it wasn't that polite either. A bridge between formality and decency, honestly. Something she was well equipped with. "Why wouldn't I call? It's an important thing… I just couldn't get a free space slotted in my schedule unfortunately. The past week has been a whole week of inspection and investment tragedy" Well, at least it went through, so all the craze was worth it. Didn't mean she was happy to go through it again. "I was hoping that my day would be better with some good news." The diviner placed her both of her elbows on the table and stared at the male sitting across her with a curious look, "How did it go?"

He couldn’t say that he was surprised that she had somehow managed to bring work to the restaurant with her as his gaze fell upon the tablet which rested against the white table cloth; Abe partly wondered if she ever left work - whether that be physically or mentally. He gathered the answer to that would be no, bar on the very rare occasions that someone managed to force her out. His lips curled at the thought as he took a seat; if that were the case, he felt incredibly sorry for the very successful Diviner opposite him. He thankfully had other interests other than conning many mortals into thinking their loved ones were standing in the room with them; although, his passion did continue to lie in breaking that very barrier. “Out of sight, out of mind. I suppose. I’m sure if she had continued to give your life further hell after the spell, you would have quickly called” He responded.

Abraham remained comfortable within the recline of the seat as the waitress came round asking if they would like a beverage. “I’ll take a rum a coke, cheers” Abe offered the waitress a soft and very brief smile before waiting for Irene to make her order; his eyes faintly drifted to the food menu at the palm of his hand and he internally felt his stomach rumble for some form of substance. “You know, you gotta get away from those old white men; they’re stealing your very prolonged life as we speak” His gaze diverted to her tablet before smirking. “Well, it’s hard to say as I did stop following her within a few days” His shoulders gave off a shrug, if things had gone tits up for the woman, he wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. “She wasn’t showing any signs that I could see if deterioration or anything that seemed to suggest the curse was overwhelming her.” Abraham followed suite and rested his forearms upon the table; the light reflecting a natural devilish glint within his eyes.

“But that isn’t to say something didn’t happen. What I can tell you, however. Is that the curse was working splendidly in those few days. She was losing her shit, comical really” A low chuckle vibrated within the depths of his chest as the waitress came round with their drink order.

She had hoped that she wouldn't be backlogged by all the work in her head but unfortunately, it wasn't easy to just escape from them when you're the CEO of that very company. It would've helped if she had a competent team of executives who would spend their time believing in her vision more than they would snark her, which usually do often end up with them being tongue tied. Quite literally. There's a lesson to that, don't make a witch angry. So her excitement to know about Mira's progress from the dark diviner sitting across her is very much occupying her head right now. She could use some of that good news. "Yes, I actually would have. Thankfully she did not give me any trouble, she just… kind of disappeared from the radar which had me curious just what the hell happened to her. I don't suppose you know then, considering your awfully dry response" she chuckled, oh well she had expected that too.

It didn't bother Irene, she just knew the hex worked and it was affecting the girl as they know it and that was more than enough for her. Does it mean she was going to stop there? Not a chance. Until she is sure Mira Harridan wouldn't pose a threat to her livelihood, she will never be at peace. The same way she thinks that girl would think too. Once he made his order, she did too, her usual iced lemon tea and something light like a sandwich because she will have some auditing inspection to do later that day. "My very prolonged life has been under the shadows of said old white men for decades… since 1962 if we're being honest actually. They haven't even seen me physically until like 4 years ago, and they still hate the idea of a woman in charge of the company they're working at for the past 40 years. It's exhausting to deal with them when you know they won't take you seriously because they're too focused on the whole wearing heels and skirts thing." Misogyny doesn't fail to fall upon her either, sadly.

She placed her tablet aside and tapped the table with her nails casually, staring at him with a bored expression, "So there's a high chance she's fighting it off better than we thought she would. Which means… she is stronger than we thought she is. That's probably a mistake on my part, I should've requested something stronger, lest she kick the bucket over it" she hissed under her breath and slumped against her seat. "Should we do something stronger? I want her gone. But not to the point where I have to clean up the mess yet" and by that, of course Irene meant she wasn't striding far off the route of ending up with a body bag. "I want her to go crazy on her own… better if she ends up in an asylum… you're used to playing dirty tricks, you probably have some ideas, you know I'll enlist your service at any price so don't be shy now."

Perhaps he should have ordered some food, after all, he had made the decision this meal was going to be paid by Irene; it wasn’t very often he would get the chance to do dine in such a prestigious restaurant. Abraham waited patiently for the waitress to return with their drinks before ordering a steak; yes he could cook this at home but not to that particular standard. The rum and coke was a welcoming substance as he took a sip, and shook his head at just how long she had been working for these men. “I am hoping they’re mortal? Human? If so, they’ll be dead in what? Maximum 5 years time? Then you can begin to forge this business into your own, and have people you want to work for you” Abe nodded.

Abraham pulled a slight face, there was certainly a chance that Mira was fighting off the hex, and it wasn’t an option he had even considered before, during or after the hex had been placed. He had never placed such a hex upon a fellow Diviner, and so his studies were only based on those of human descent. “There is a possibility that she had realised what was going on and had done some sort of counteract on the hex” He let the pad of his finger run along the rim of the glass until his steak came along and distracted him from the motion. “Do you know if she works alone? Does she belong to a Coven?” He asked, if so, and Mira had the slightest inkling that the hex was bestowed upon her by Irene, he could only imagine the trouble that could potentially come her way.

The Diviner took a deep inhale as he chewed his way through some of the steak - his mind racing over a few things as to how to get someone to lose their marbles without much magic. “Breaking her heart? Stripping her of magic? Both?” Abraham spoke his thoughts out loud - stripping one of their powers was almost unheard of and a myth that he had heard growing up; in fact, it was a threat his Father used to make to him as a child when he stepped out of line. There was enough dark magic around, and if not directly to hand certainly in the black market where he could find ingredients such as Dragonkin blood - and who knows exactly what that did to their victims. “I can’t see her handling both that well..” Abe didn’t know the woman, but he could hazard a guess that two big losses in her life would trigger some form of mental breakdown; although the interest he had of the after effects of Dragonkin blood did play on his mind.

When he ordered his food, she could sense that he’s tired, probably due to his job, and wanted a good meal out of it. Well, that’s the least she could offer, especially after enlisting his help in her… slightly murky and darker quest to get rid of Mira Harridan. Though, from the looks of things, it doesn’t seem to be going well. Not what she planned, anyway. “See, that’s the cycle we’ve been going at, and yes they’re mortal, thank god for that.” God knows she couldn’t handle them more than one or two decades more. She’s been under their sight for decades ever since she took over the family business, even though she used a different proxy every few years. All they know is that their boss is a female. Until about 3 years ago anyway, that’s when she decided she’s not immortal anyway, might as well spend the last few decades playing the field in person.

“But they have a way of sending down their successors to be just as dim-witted and power-hungry as they are. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Admittedly, she still has yet to see their potential because the old men would often leave their kids behind the scenes. “I’ll find a way to pull out the weed, either way, I have time.” She could worry about that later, Mira however, that’s one individual she could not afford to just sit by and do nothing. Irene knows she would take down the empire she has built tirelessly just to make her hurt. “It’s not impossible, she’s a light diviner gone dark, and actually a worthy opponent. She’s formidable and she knows her way around, there’s no way she hasn’t gone through a lot of deep learning just to get revenge. If she wasn’t so hell-bent into targeting me, I might actually be impressed by her resilience.” But the blonde is just as stubborn, she won’t give up until people who threatened her know what comes their way.

When asked if the other female belonged to a coven, Irene shook her head, “No, and no. As surprising as it is, she knows how to keep a low profile when she doesn’t want to be found. But I’m guessing she works alone in what she’s doing because it’s a personal vendetta, there is no way a coven would willingly help out a crazed woman on a mission to spread chaos and get revenge on one individual. That sounds crazy… not to mention, wasteful.” Covens do protect one another but they have far better things to do than beef with one person. “But whether or not she’s working with someone who has personal gains, that’s another story.” The ideas he spouts out were not mindless, but one is the key to the other. “Stripping her off her magic is the key to breaking her heart and spirit. It’s not entirely unheard of, right? But, it’s not easy, and by that I mean you need a coven… or I don’t know, a place to channel that much mystical energy.” Irene doesn’t belong to any coven, not even Evermore’s. She has been a lone diviner for as long as she could remember. She stopped on her food and raised her eyebrows at him questioningly, “What do you have in mind? I feel like you’re no stranger to black markets either.”

Abraham discreetly chuckled as they spoke about the work dynamic and relationship with the men on the board; and although he too, worked in the family business, he was fair enough away from his Parents to pretty much do as he pleases with the shop. Although, he was sure that if they were in dire need of his company, they would just portal to Evermore without an ounce of consideration, such as asking to see if he was available. “At least you know it’s not long term, imagine working under your parents… Still’ Abraham wasn’t silly, he knew his parents still had a while to go before one of them decided to kick the bucket, Maddox Mediums wasn’t truly his until then. “Thank fuck they still live in Hungary” He mused.

He waved down the waiter to bring another round of drinks, although he had seen some of the effects of the hex upon Mira, it certainly wasn’t as strong as it would have been on a mere mortal or that or another species. And so, he was certainly in the right mind to suggest that Mira was well, living luxuriously in the shadows, plotting some unremarkable revenge. “Being a lone Diviner also, I’m not sure the pair of us could pull off a stint like that. And the other Diviners here are… More angelic like than the likes of I” He rolled his eyes, but then, he was trying to keep his name in the good books; another bout of Prison was not on his agenda any time soon. “The black markets are some of the most interesting places around, I tend to go outside of the Evermore one, just to broaden the range of stock” His favourite place to go was Morocco.

“One of the hottest items going around at the moment in Dragonkin Blood, which honestly I’m surprised about. They’re a sort of legend to most if not fictional, but a nightmare to the Nephilim” He cleared his throat when the waiter came up with his food, and his belly roared at the smell as began to dig in. “Now, because of the rarity of this species, not much is known about the effects of their blood on others. I can’t imagine it being any good but if I get my hands on some, we could conduct some kind of experiment on our friend Mira.” He wiggled his eyebrows at the blonde opposite him; part of him wondered if this would be too much of a move for her.

She quirked her eyebrows when he said at least it wasn’t long term, making her chuckle because, true, her parents are long gone ever since she turned 18 years old so it wasn’t an existing problem for the diviner. “Thank god my parents are long gone or else the company would not be what it is today… They’re not even particularly good parents to start with but you’d be surprised at how terrible they are with management in general. You’d think if you’re bad at one thing, you’d at least be good at another.”

But that was not the case with her parents, which did annoy her sometimes when she thought about how their other relatives tried to usurp her control over the company she built with her blood, sweat, and tears, sometimes quite literally. A laugh escaped her when he said the diviners in Evermore are a lot more angelic “And that is precisely why I haven’t found myself at the doorstep to join the coven here. Perhaps I’ll get better access to the ancestral magic here if I join, but that’s not my forte anyway, and I’m most likely not going to stay here forever.” Besides, she never really did well with crowds unless it’s business.

“Then we’ll just have to find ourselves into the infamous black market… desperate times call for drastic measures, no? I’m willing to do it, the question is… are you?” Dragonkin was definitely not a fiction, that much she knew of considering she came across the question surrounding them a few decades back. Not a memory she’d like to recall to be honest. “Dragonkin blood huh? I guess that’ll be interesting to see how the experiment turns out, an expensive one if I’d like to reiterate but… something bad must’ve occurred either way so why not? What do you need?”
