RP Situation

A likes to visit the local humane society to say hello to the animals. On this particularly normal day, something especially abnormal happens — one of the ‘dogs’ (B) speaks. “Help me get out of here, will ya?”

The day had finally come. Aeryn had been telling himself that he was going to get a dog for months now, he always wanted to have one and now he had finally moved out of the old place he lives and into the new one. He had scheduled the date to come to the shelter and see the animals after he had seen some of the listings online. As he parked up his car outside the shelter, he climbed out and headed into the reception area and before long he was able to go look around at the animals.

He explored the place at his own leisure, heading up to each of the kennels one by one and greeting whoever was living in there. He found that there was a big difference in the different animal's temperament, some of them came running up to the front to give his attention and others didn't seem interested in his presence at all. Aeryn had watched them all for a while, putting his hands through the wire so the different animals could sniff him and get to know him. He found it kinda bittersweet, he was glad to be here and to be able to choose an animal to take home today but he felt saddened by the fact he could only bring home one.

His attention was suddenly taken when he heard the sound of clattering from one of the kennels not too far away and he turned on his heels, heading towards it before he noticed that somehow a cat had managed to get itself stuck in one of the kennels with one of the dogs and it was currently trying to scare off the curious canine by pawing at it angrily. Aeryn looked around, not spotting anyone around who could help so he tried to gate to open it and climb inside, when he pushed surprisingly it came open. It didn't take him long to grab the cat and safely remove it from the situation but when he headed back to the gate to open it again, it was forced shut. Well damn.

He still couldn't see anyone around and the cat was wriggling in his arms trying to escape his hold, meanwhile, the dog was yapping at his feet and attempting to try and get at the animal in his arms, he was struggling to keep them both out of the way of one another. Just then he heard someone's footsteps heading towards the kennel and called out to them, shaking his head because this was the craziest situation he found himself in right now "Hey, help me get out of here will ya? The gate won't open from the inside".

Hae-Ri woke up to the vigorous licking from her puppy’s tongue, she had slept through her alarm clock, because Leo had knocked it off the bedside table and broke it. “I’m up, I’m up” she spoke as Leo pulled back away from her and gave her time to get up out of bed. Given that she had overslept, he was feeling hungry and impatient with her. The young Nephilim sluggishly raised from her bed and sat on the edge of her bed yawning, and stretching. “Time for breakfast Leo” she stated, still half asleep, standing up, with her bare foot landing on the glass shards from the broken alarm clock. “AISH!!!” she yelled out in pain, needless to say that woke her up fully. She sat back on the bed and pulled a shard of glass from her foot. “Damn it” she cursed out as she waited for her foot to heal. That was the first bit of pain she had felt in a while now, and all she could do was glare at little Leo. He quickly bolted out of the room, probably scared she was going to punish him, but she blamed herself more than him. She should have been more aware of her surroundings, instead of walking without looking.

After her foot was healed up, she wiped away the blood on her foot and headed for the bathroom. She washed her hands clean of the blood, and used a washcloth to make sure her foot was cleaned of the blood. When that was taken care of, she went back to her bedroom to clean up the broken mess on her floor. Taking the batteries out of the clock, she threw the clock in the trash along with the broken shards of glass. Finally she swept around the area to make sure she had all the pieces of glass. It was now time for breakfast, and she made her way towards the kitchen where Leo was trying to hide. “It’s okay Leo, you can come out. I’m not mad at you” she spoke calmly, causing the puppy to come out of ‘hiding’. “It looks like we’re both having a late breakfast” she spoke with a slight laugh as she realized the clock on the wall said 10:38 AM. As she sat alone at the table, her puppy nearby enjoying his breakfast, Hae-Ri looked at Leo, “Hey Leo. Would you like a brother or sister?” she questioned curiously. Leo’s ears perked up, as if he understood her question, and he began jumping around. “I’ll take that response as a yes” she commented with a big laugh. “I’ll head to some pet shops and animal shelters to see if I can find a sibling for you” she stated before picking him up and giving him a kiss.

The young brunette drove around the city for a little while, checking various pet shops and some small local animal shelters, yet none of the dogs stood out to her enough to get them. She was slowly beginning to give up on finding a sibling for her little Leo, until she heard about a larger animal shelter nearby. Hopping into her car once again, she drove towards the animal shelter with high hopes. She wasn’t sure if she would find the dog for her there either, but it was worth taking a look. As she entered the building, she was greeted by one of the workers at the animal shelter. “Hello. I was wondering if I could look at your dogs. I’m looking for a small dog, because I’m afraid that Leo wouldn’t get along very well with a big dog” she stated with a concerned tone. “I’m guessing Leo is your current pet” the worker asked curiously. “Yes he’s my puppy, and I want both him and the new dog to get along well” Hae-Ri responded with a smile. “Well we have a rather big inventory to choose from, so feel free to look around. That’s the dog kennels there. You’ll probably see another guy in there somewhere. He’s supposed to be looking for a dog as well” the worker said. “Thank you” Hae-Ri said with a smile, and a slight bow.

She made her way toward the dog kennels, however she didn’t see anybody else there. Maybe they had found the dog they wanted and were already gone, or maybe they didn’t find what they wanted and left without getting a dog. As she walked through the kennel room looking at the various puppies and bigger dogs, she heard a voice speak out. Hae-Ri held a look of confusion upon her face as she began looking for the source of the voice. Surely this animal shelter doesn’t have a talking dog right? Is such a thing even possible outside of television? As she made her way through the room, she found the source of the voice. There was a male stuck inside of one of the kennels, and Hae-Ri couldn’t help but laugh. “Can I bring you home with me as my new pet?” she teased before opening the kennel door. “How did this even happen?”

Aeryn loved animals, he had always loved animals, whenever he would dock in a new port he would always be drawn to any of the dogs who were hanging out around the boats, they always seemed to like him. He remembered finding a lost goat about a year ago and the journey he had gone through to try and reunite him with his owner. The Nephilim had always been surrounded by animals but he’d never had one for himself, he had no idea what the experience of being a pet owner would be like and frankly, he didn’t even know who to ask about it. He thought about asking the shelter staff but he wasn’t sure if that would hurt his chances of getting the pet he wanted if they realized he was a complete novice. Still, he seemed to be doing a decent job of keeping these two particular animals from having a full on brawl.

Getting stuck in the kennel hadn’t been exactly what he foresaw but thankfully before long someone came along, she didn’t look like a volunteer so he assumed he must also be here to pick out a pet. He couldn’t help but laugh too as he saw her shocked expression as she tried to figure out why a dog was talking to her only to realize he was stuck in there. Her joke made him chuckle under his breath “I’m not sure my girlfriend would be too happy with that” he responded shaking his head as he sidestepped through the gate, the cat still in his arms. He frowned for a moment, where did this cat even come from, and was she supposed to be here? “Well I noticed these two were about to start fur war of the century and didn’t think before I ran in there” he laughed softly “Thanks” he added to the end “I think you saved me from getting scratched to hell” he commented with a chuckle “Are you here to find a pet?” he questioned curiously, now they were away from the dog, the cat had settled comfortably in his arms.

This had to be one of the weirdest and funniest encounters that the young Nephilim had ever experienced. She hadn’t expected to find a person in a dog kennel, not in her lifetime anyways, so this was a rather refreshing experience for her. As she let the male out of his cage, she stepped back for a moment to give him room to exit the cage. “Darn. All the good pets are always taken” she continued to tease, still laughing at the male. Of course she didn’t really want to take him home, but she sure found it fun to tease him about the predicament she found him in. When the male exited the cage, Hae-Ri closed the gate behind him so that the REAL dog inside didn’t escape. “Well I don’t know if you’re brave, stupid, or a combination of both” she began with a laugh, “but it was very nice of you to risk yourself like that” she commented in a genuine tone of admiration. She probably would have done the same thing, but that was mostly because she also knew she could heal relatively quickly.

“Well when you step between a dog and a cat fighting, you can’t expect to escape without a scratch” she commented on his statement before gesturing towards his arm. “Not exactly. I’m here to find a friend for my current baby Leo. He’s only small, so I got to be careful with my choice” she spoke with a smile. “Do you have a name boy? Should I call your owner?” she teased before sticking out her tongue to the male. “My name’s Hae-Ri. It is very nice to meet you Mr…” she let her sentence drag out for the male to introduce himself. She had a feeling that she would never let him live this down if they became friends, and she hoped that they would. She was still fairly new to the city, and didn’t have many people here to call friends.

He grinned, also laughing because the situation was definitely funny to say the least, especially because he had a cat in one arm, hissing at the dog who kept yapping “The real question I’m wondering the answer to right now is...where is this cat from?” after all, the kennel was pretty secure so he was pretty sure it must have climbed up over the small gap in the top, probably trying to get at the food in the bowl which the pup hadn’t managed to demolish yet. But surely if it was a shelter cat then it shouldn’t be just roaming around. “Probably both” he responded and chuckled “Pretty sure my Hogwarts house was Gryffindor so” he grinned and winked before setting the feline down on the ground before it clawed his arm off in retaliation for the interruption, he already had a few red scratches and scuffs on him but he was sure they would heal quickly enough.

“Better me getting hurt than one of them” he responded without hesitation, Aeryn definitely had a soft spot for animals and he didn’t regret putting himself in harm’s way to make sure they were safe. The cat seemed to come around and realize he wasn’t trying to hurt him because he was brushing up against Aeryn’s leg and looking for attention “You know I don’t think this cat is from the shelter” now that he was looking, he noticed a collar and a number for the owner “Probably snuck in here so he could steal the dog’s food and cause havoc” sounded like a cat thing to do honestly. He was more of a dog person himself but he liked any animal.

“You know, I might be in a lot of trouble if you call my owner, you see I’m not supposed to leave the yard without permission” he responded and laughed under his breath when she introduced herself “Aeryn, nice to meet you” he added to finish her sentence. “And your current baby is what?” just then he heard the sound of the shelter staff rushing through to another spot in the kennels and when he looked down again the cat from earlier was gone. He raised a confused brow before looking at Hae-ri and then heading towards the commotion to see what was going on. It seemed like it was an eventful day at the shelter today.

With the male now safely out of the kennel, things were slowly calming down, though the dog and cat were still arguing, if you could call it that. “That’s a good question. This doesn’t exactly look like a place for a cat, given that this is the dog kennel area” she commented on his question. Could the cat have been a stray? Or maybe it somehow escaped its kennel on the cat side and decided to cause some trouble. When he talked about Hogwarts house, and Gryffindor, Hae-Ri looked at him confused. “What’s a Hogwarts house?” she queried curiously. Hae-Ri wasn’t exactly a big movie person growing up, and only starting watching movies as a pass-time activity when it was raining or something. So she had no idea about the references from Harry Potter, because that was one series of movies she hadn’t seen yet. When he set the cat down on the ground, she smiled at him. She still found it funny that he got locked in the kennel, but she was amazed that he put himself in that position to break up a fight between the two animals.

“At least you have a better chance of healing compared to them” she commented with a wink. She had noticed a little earlier that his eyes held the same purple tint that hers did, marking him as a fellow Nephilim. She seemed to have some strange luck when it came to meeting other Nephilim. First there was the Ambassador who she met accidentally while trying to catch Leo after he escaped her grip while out for a walk, and now here she was meeting another Nephilim accidentally when searching for a friend for Leo. Maybe LEO was her good luck charm? “Seems like that cat has taken a liking to you. Perhaps because you rescued it from that cage” she spoke with a smile when she saw the cat brushing up against his leg. “You could have a point there. I haven’t seen shelter cats having collars until they are going to a new home. Either it snuck in here or maybe it belongs to one of the shelter workers and they brought it here with them from home to keep an eye on it. If that’s the case, it would seem like they didn’t do a very good job of it” she said with a slight laugh. Whoever the owner was, she could surely bet they were concerned about their lost pet.

“Well I guess we wouldn’t want you to get in trouble now would we? Not after that heroic rescue you did just now” she replied with another laugh. This will definitely be one of her favorite memories to date, and she’ll never forget this guy no matter how hard she tried. All she gotta do is remember the cat and dog scuffle, and she’ll remember the guy who stepped in to stop it and got himself locked in the cage. “Aeryn huh? I guarantee you I’ll never forget you that’s for sure” she spoke through a small laugh before hearing his question. “My current baby is Maltese puppy named Leo. He’s quite the energetic one too when he wants to be” she answered with a bright smile. She loved Leo, and figured it was time to get him a friend to play with. Though she had to make sure that he wouldn’t get intimidated by the new puppy as well. “You know I thought that cat looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Look at this” she told the male after pulling a piece of paper from her pocket. The paper was a poster for a lost cat, and the cat in the photo looked just like that cat he had saved. The only way to know for sure would be to check the name on the collar, but it wasn’t long before they heard a commotion elsewhere in the shelter, and the cat he had saved was now missing again. She followed behind Aeryn as they headed towards the source of the commotion.

He looked around for a moment trying to figure out where the cat might be from and why it was in the dog kennel, he couldn’t even seen how it had managed to find it’s way into the kennel unless it had snuck in the last time the door had been opened “Maybe it snuck in there when one of the workers opened the door...so it could steal the dog’s food” poor thing was probably hungry and grabbed the opportunity while it could. It didn’t seem like a stray given that it hadn’t attacked him when he picked it up, just continued to try and attack the dog. He pursed his lips in confusion as he set it down.

He had to admit he was surprised when she said didn’t know what a Hogwarts house was and he chuckled “It’s something from the Harry Potter serious...basically everyone gets categorized based on their personality type” he grinned “There’s a quiz online and everything” he stayed up to date with recent trends and was generally quite a modern person, despite his age. Though it had taken him a while to catch up with everything when he first came to Evermore. “Exactly...and definitely not a number” he was about to look up the number on his phone but by the time he took out the phone to write it down the cat was nowhere to be found which had him looking around confused for a few moments.

“Gonna remember as the dog who spoke to you huh?” he laughed under his breath and shook his head in amusement, he was lucky that she had been there because if not he was gonna be locked in there with an angry cat and a hyperactive dog until one of the workers finally came back to check on them. “Oh so sweet, I don’t have a dog but I’ve been wanting one for a long time” he looked over to her when she pointed out the cat looked like one she had seen before “Oh wow…” he looked around in concern because it was no longer in sight and he wondered if they should go to look for it. They didn’t have time to start looking as they heard a commotion coming from far away though. They rushed towards the sound of the voice only to see a woman sitting by one of the dogs, she spoke to them immediately asking them to get help as the dog was going into labor. Aeryn widened his eyes as he looked over to Hae-ri and then took off heading towards the front desk.

Both of them seemed to be rather dumbfounded as to where the cat had come from, or even how it ended up in the dog kennel, but Hae-Ri liked mysteries no matter how big or small. “A sneaky thief huh?” she commented on Aeryn’s speculation. “It is possible, but surely the worker would have heard the commotion before leaving the kennel right?” she responded curiously. If there was a worker on the scene when the cat got in the kennel, it would be impossible for them to miss such a commotion going on in the kennel. Then again, she had noticed when she arrived that there was a worker there who liked to listen to music while doing their job. She was able to figure that out because they wore headphones, and was ever so slightly dancing to whatever it was they were listening to. At first she thought it was a fun thing to do, but if that had caused them to miss the commotion of a cat locked in with a dog, it was definitely a work hazard.

When she had made the comment about the Hogwarts House, she couldn’t help but smile a bit at the male’s laugh that ensued. As Hae-Ri listened to him explain to her about the Harry Potter series, and what the Hogwarts House was, she smiled in recognition. “Oh yes, I’ve heard of the Harry Potter series, but I haven’t actually seen them. A friend of mine from back home recommended them to me, but I just haven’t gotten around to watching them yet” she replied with a laugh. “There’s a quiz to determine your Hogwarts House?” she queried curiously. She did find herself curious about such a quiz, and despite not seeing the movies, she was wondering what Hogwarts House she would belong in. While they talked about Harry Potter and Hogwarts Houses, the cat had taken that time to make its great escape, and was now nowhere to be seen. Maybe it had returned to its owner, or maybe it had gone off to cause some more trouble in the shelter.

“Of course!” she beamed brightly at his comment. “I’ve never met a talking dog until today” she teased with a laugh. “I should get your phone number so I can name it Good Boy” she continued through her laughter. It would be almost impossible to forget him after that encounter, and she would probably never let him live it down should they meet again after today. “I’ve loved dogs ever since I was little. The first dog I had died when I was young, then I waited for a while before I got another. I was so busy with work and things, I didn’t get another dog until I was about 25” she commented with a small smile. Her first dog was much bigger than her current pet, and was even bigger than her when she was small. She remembered getting warm by cuddling into the dog during the colder winter months. The nearby commotion brought her back from her little trip down memory lane, and she followed Aeryn only to find that a dog was going into labor.

Hae-Ri wasn’t sure who the woman was that asked them to go get help, but she was certain that she wasn’t a worker at the shelter. The workers had to suspect the dog would go into labor at any moment, because they had everything there and ready to go when she began giving birth. While she wasn’t exactly qualified to do anything to help with the birthing, Hae-Ri did know what to do from back when her friend’s dog was giving birth. Hae-Ri got down beside the dog with a clean towel in her hands, and when the first puppy was born, she began using the towel to gently dry the baby and remove mucus and the amniotic sack from around the nose and mouth. Just after she had done that, one of the shelter workers came by to take over. She stood up from the dog and puppy, and let the worker take over.

“I mean if I was lost and hungry...or even just hungry...a place where they hand out free food in silver bowls seems like the place to go” he chuckled under his breath, the cat probably just found its way in here at some point and realized what there was to gain. “Well you’d think so but” he shrugged, he wasn’t sure why one of the workers wouldn’t notice they shut a cat into one of the dog pens but it seemed illogical there was a way in and other otherwise or the cat would have used the route to escape already. “Who knows, the place is loud and the barking is pretty much constant, they might have assumed he was just sad because they had to leave” Aeryn was by no means a dog whisperer that was for sure, he’d never even owned one before.

He raised his brow and smiled softly “And I thought I was out of touch with modern pop culture” he teased with a smile, though he would give her a pass because her accent seemed to suggest she was not natively American or British so perhaps her culture just wasn’t exposed to the same things. “Oh yeah...supposed to tell you which category you fit into...brave...loyal...wise or cunning” he was sure it was a little deeper than that but that was the overview he had gotten from watching the movies. He was sure the books probably described it much better as did most storybooks when compared to their shorter and less detailed counterparts “You should take the test with zero knowledge of what it all means and see what happens” he chuckled softly, he was sure most people took it with a bias with which result they wanted after all.

The nephilim couldn’t help but laugh when she mentioned never meeting a talking dog before and following it up with the nickname she wanted to give him “Well now I’m going to have to give you my number just so I can tell people this very story” he teased playfully before pulling it up on his phone and showing it to her so she could copy it down. If he did end up getting a dog together he figured that would mean he would have a guaranteed playdate for them “At least you finally got around to it...I think it’s better to wait until the time is right than to take something on that you’re not ready to handle” that was why he had refrained from being selfish for this long, it didn’t seem fair on the dog after all.

He had to admit had was not expecting this emergency situation to unfold around them but before long they were huddled around the mama dog. Aeryn was giving her soothing pats against her head along with helping to measure her temperature while Hae-ri was helping to birth the puppies. The mother was a beautiful siberian husky and before long her first pup was a beautiful little boy with blue eyes. He swore his heart practically melted. The workers were buzzing, explaining how the mother had only been brought in this morning and was due her first vet exam this afternoon when this unexpected event occurred. The two of them stepped back to let the shelter staff take over, he seated himself on the bench as they watched the rest of the process “Seems like you have a little experience with puppies” he praised softly noting the way she had sprung into action.
