What the hell is she even doing now.
There, Malva could be seen wrecking her entire room, searching for god knows what. Surrounding her was a few crumpled sheets of paper that had been previously scribbled on. Her books were lying on the carpeted floor not so neatly and so was her pillows and blanket. Even her clothes were lying just about the door. She was even pulling out stuff from under her bed, which was boxes of her enchanted stuff that she didn't find the need to decorate her room with. Not long after, she peeked her head out from underneath the bed as she leaned against the wall of her room with both her hands over her face. "I must've misplaced it.. Where did I put it.." That was the same question she has been asking herself for the past 3 hours.
Yes, she has been doing that for over 3 hours ago.
Whatever she was searching for, it was important or at least significant enough to the Aspect of Magic, especially seeing as how distressed she was upon finding out that she could not pinpoint the location of it. Fluttering her eyes open once again, her sapphire hues scanned her entire room, which was a bit spacious when given, and got up from her seating position. Mumbling a few words, it was no doubt that she was casting a tracking spell. Well, she was desperate to find it and what's the harm in casting a small tracking spell to find the very thing she sought out for, in the first place?
A few seconds later, a wind blew towards one direction, her other extended room where she kept all her potions and enchanted items in. She walked as fast as her legs could carry her and unlocked the door, stepping inside as her right hand made a swift movement to take the thing she has been searching for the entire 3 hours. It was a small trinket. Her red ruby pendant. The pendant that glowed so malevolently as the energy that was contained in it. Since it was a given that the Russian born Aspect was not a fan of dark magic, she made sure she never needed to summon the energy to cast it whenever she was called to do so. In return, after she had created such a powerful vessel to hold in the dark energy, she would only need to tap in it as her source. She knew witches and wizards liked to be unique and creative, and she was not excluded from the lot.
Malva has been busy, and thought it was only possible for her to clear her head if she had went somewhere that offers her tranquility and serenity. The closest place that offers her all of that would be near the river bank, which holds as the residency of the diviners. She couldn't remember the last time she had went there. It's been a while. Truly. Shoving her spell journal and a few papers in her bag, she wrapped herself in a scarf and made a swift movement for the room to be tidied up. What's the use of having magic under your sleeves if you can't make use of it to your advantage at times? Closing the door as she locked in, she made her way downstairs and passed the guards that were coming in and out from the entrance door. By now, she was sure everyone knew their preferences and being one of the most temperamental sibling from the lot aside from her elder brother, Erythreus, they know not to dwell within her company if she does not ask for one.
After a while of not getting used to her dragon transformation, she decided to retest it out, just for the sake of rekindling the fires that needed to be rekindled. In an instance, the slightly flaxen haired Aspect had transformed into her purple dragon form as she soared through the skies and found the river bank not far off from where she was at. Taking her place to land in between the trees, she was grateful their dragon forms were invisible to the eyes, since it would've been weird to see a dragon flying around. Even for supernaturals. Slowly reverting back to her human form, she made sure to trace her amethyst pendant that gave her the ability to transform into one. She missed the times where she would just fly around for the sake of peace in her own mind. Coming out from the trees, she took a seat by the boulders near the river stream and placed her bag next to her.
Malva took out her spell journal and skimmed through a few pages until she stopped at one that was half way written, undoubtedly unfinished. She grabbed a quill and began writing something down, probably finishing it. The wind blew through her long locks, those she only bothered to braid half way. It was weird that she was using a quill and not a pen, but despite living in the modern days, she wasn't accustomed to it as easily her younger sister, Cora, did. Besides, she had enchanted it.

Wyatt continued sitting forward on his knees, completely intrigued by her words. He had never thought of really taking the time to enjoy the process more instead of rushing to get to the ending. Sometimes he would let his frustrations on not being quicker to pick up on all the small nuances of learning older magic get in the way of his studies. Wyatt was a perfectionist at times and schooling, magic, and pretty much anything else he put his energy into throughout his long life came very easily to him. His friends had called him the Jack of all trades because he naturally picked up on things very fast. It was a foreign feeling to not be able to rapidly pick up on some of the ancient writings he'd found throughout his research and thus, he'd become overwhelmed. Perhaps Malva was right. Perhaps he did need to work on enjoying the fact that he was actually able to find what he did and appreciate the ride more.
Wyatt leaned back in the chair as she inquired about his relationship with the other diviners here in Evermore. "Oh, I am a part of the coven here. Have been for a long time. My cousin is actually the leader currently, much to the surprise of everyone, including herself. It was very... unexpected. Needless to say, it's brought us together more, but there is a strain among the diviners. More than just the nonsense of light and dark; fae and necromancers." He shook his head slightly thinking about the ongoing tensions between them. It was almost like they were two smaller factions sometimes the way they behaved. "It doesn't help that many of the diviners are opposed to having Kae as their new leader..." he glanced up to her, realizing he was ranting about things she probably had no idea about. Giving a small and awkward chuckle, he shook his head. "Sorry. Kind of went off on a tangent there, but I guess it does show how passionate I am about it. I guess I am distant at times. My cousin asks me to keep doing the research. To find out more about older magic to bring the diviners together, so to speak. It would be a lie to say I don't use that as an excuse to distance myself from all the drama of the coven sometimes too."
He smirked slightly as she joked about his ancestry. "Well.. does anyone ever really believe they could be part of some royal family? No. It would be strange to think it of mine too." Wyatt shrugged slightly, looking to the coat of arms with her, almost with a new set of eyes. Her request for some of his blood wasn't necessarily a surprise to him, but more so in the manner in which she asked. He was about to stumble over his words, but as she broke into a laugh, he chuckled in turn while placing the bottle down and rolling up his sleeve. "I honestly don't know much about my family. It seems they have been very quiet about our history, recent history included. My cousin's parents have a shroud of mystery around them and my own were never very forthcoming when it came to giving out answers when I inquired about our bloodline." Standing from the chair, Wyatt walked over to his alter, taking the ceremonial blade he had and coming back to sit across from her. He leaned forward once more and offered her the knife with a crooked grin. "And as the horror movie continued, the young strapping hero handed the mysterious, but lovely stranger a sharpened blade. The suspenseful music rising over the scene."
She could understand where Wyatt is coming from, as expected from some perfectionists, it’s the same. She still spent her time working on to retracing some trails back, but it's going to be slightly minimal due to her working commitment. She can't agree that performing autopsies and cutting people's bodies open was the option she opted for, to take her mind off things, but she wasn't being picky or choosy. And yet she has been doing nothing but pace around since last night. Her tendency to block things out and endurance was surprisingly a talent for the Aspect of Magic. For the past two days, all that the brunette has been doing was cutting her palm open to rectify her reasons on using blood magic to retrace their two finest guards’ disappearance that was holding their utmost attention at the moment, especially hers, considering she’s failed trying to get ahold of them. The tragedy of losing Vladimir hit them hard, and she always tried to keep an eye on Octavia now.
13 times trying various locator spells she could think of, even up to resorting to blood magic for a more clearer insight, yet 13 times she was returned with a huge no. Malva may as well make a dissertation out of it and see if anyone else reading hers would be just as frustrated as she is when everything she tried came back futile. Well, not everything. There were plenty of forms she still has yet to try but most of them dabbled way too much in the darker path; a path she doesn’t favor. But she’s desperate enough to seek out other ways just to see if she’s just a little low in her game or there was someone else who’s more advanced in this game than her. Of course she knew there were plenty of potential proteges everywhere in the world, but for someone to be able to tamper with her locator spells, that took a certain degree and the fact that she didn’t even know who it might be worries her to no end.
When Wyatt said he was related to the leader of the Evermore diviner coven, Mal was a bit surprised, “Oh? You’re related to Kaelyn Brookes? A bit from the prodigal side, aren’t you?” she pointed out, a teasing jab present in her tone. However, hearing that there was strain within the community made her frown, “What kind of strain? And why are the others opposing for her ascension as coven leader? I’d like to think that there wouldn’t be any reasons warranting that issue but then again, I still have yet to get to know the local coven.” Her ability remained hidden but she is someone every diviner would wanna meet and learn under, that’s what others told her. Though she wasn’t so sure about that anymore. “I mean, if you don’t mind me asking of course… I wouldn’t want to pry but it sounds troubling, and when a diviner is troubled because of the coven, that never turns out good.” To find more information regarding the older magic for researching purposes? That certainly did pique her interest, he seemed very passionate, that much was true.
Perhaps, she could give him a chance. Spreading knowledge about what she knows, that would do them good. “It’s not usual to find people who wanted to learn about the mystical arts of the ancient days now, I guess I’m a bit surprised but also delighted to know that magic is well-preserved in a few groups today” she had the right to worry, most magic back then were a bit chaotic compared to now, they were unpredictable and the slightest mistake can trigger a series of events and lead them astray. “Sometimes you wonder why people keep a secret, it’s only right to be worried or wary, but then again, the truth are not always delightful. So I can also understand where they’re coming from too.”
Malva narrowed her blue hues teasingly in feigned annoyance as she took the knife from him, tilting her head to the side while her hues remained fixated on the blade that had a malevolent glint to it, “Pretty. Where did you get it? Somewhere from the Middle East, I assume, from the words engraved on the blade.”
Wyatt's eyes moved from her to the blade and he nodded in agreement. "Yes, it's from Egypt, actually. I got it in Cairo when I flew out there for a shoot. I'm an all-around photographer or more so an archaeophotographer on a good day. I basically take pictures of nature, animals, ruins, and the like when I'm not doing event shooting for weddings and The Daily or high-fashion magazine jobs. I get to travel to other countries which could hardly be called work at all." His hues read over the ancient language on the blade and along the small gems that encrusted the handle. "I do research before heading out to these locations to see if there are any older known covens that were lost to time and war, try to track down artifacts, talismans, and grimoires. A lot of the time these sellers in the marketplaces don't even realize what they have and I'm happy to buy it from them. Other times I do my own exploring in the ruins and caves and yield some finds with a bit of help from magic." Not that many of theses adventures were necessarily legal, but it wasn't like he could ever explain to humans why he needed to be out in the middle of a dessert, looking for a site they didn't know existed. He also decided to leave out the bit where he would be funded by other supernaturals that wanted to have him pilot them out to these places and sell some of their wares illegally. Frankly, he mostly didn't care who his client was as long as it got him to the location of a lost civilization, tribe, or coven.
He sighed and looked down for a moment as the troubles of the coven weighed down on him. "Not that I'm boasting, but since I'm one of the older members, a lot of magic comes easier to me and I suppose I just have a good aptitude to learn quickly. Some of the younger diviners don't really have that passion when it comes to learning older spellwork." Wyatt recalled the night of the comet and how it was like a whole other door had opened for him. "When we learned we could now do both light and dark magic, it was like a drug. I couldn't stop wanting to absorb as much as I could and I sort of stumbled onto ancient texts when I went to South America. That was it for me." A small smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth as he remembered what it was like to perform some of the ancient magic he'd found after endless nights of research to decipher the languages. "I was hooked, needless to say. Kaelyn wasn't really concerned with life here in Evermore. She'd only just began making a life here and was frankly more concerned with herself than that of the coven. After she was made leader, a few of the members didn't exactly agree with her taking the position knowing she had.. other priorities in her life." To say that their reunion was anything more than her needing to literally be bailed out of a bad situation was a lie, but he was thankful to at least have some family back in his life. The Brookes's were low in numbers. "Anyway, I've been helping her as much as I can in her new position and we'd thought magic was the obvious connection to bring us all together. She was happy to have me find as much knowledge as I could to strengthen the coven."
Looking back to Malva, he held her gaze. "I don't think many of them are capable or ready for some of the things I've found. Some of it is incredibly advanced and magic is chaotic as I'm sure you are well aware. For now I've been compiling my notes and giving them small samples of some of the magic I've uncovered, but there are many other spells I wouldn't show anyone else. Not even my cousin." If the woman before him was as powerful as she seemed to him to be, Wyatt hoped she could be the one to help him decipher the texts he was stuck on. Perhaps running into her in the woods was some sort of fate. Frankly, he was desperate at this point; Completely itching for the chance to feel that kind of power. He would give anything to be taught the spellwork she held in her journal.
Wyatt cleared his throat and readjusted himself on his seat, moving closer to her with the offering of his arm. "Anyway, let's see if I'm the great, great, great, great, great grandson of a king." He chuckled and reached for his beer with his free hand, taking a swig. "All this stuff I'm mentioning with the coven is probably not getting us any brownie points if you were interested in visiting a gathering some time."
She had her lips jutted out as she gave a nod at his answer regarding the origin of the blade that he gave to her earlier, her eyes glazed over the edge and let her fingers linger around the engravings, such a beautiful specimen indeed, she had to give it to him though, Wyatt is good at locating things like that. “It seems like it dated back in the Early Dynastic Kingdom era, I wonder who preserved it and more importantly, what kind of magic they used because it feels so light” Of course, she wasn’t talking about the blade’s physical weight, anyone could hold it and feel that it definitely weighed more than they think it was, she was reiterating the essence of it. “Yet another question to remain unanswered for another day"
That was until she had a brilliant idea forming in her head, as she grinned as if the light bulb was switched on, “I have an idea. To measure how far your… capabilities go, why not measure this blade? And I don’t mean in centimeters or anything of the sort, why don’t you measure the mass weight of it, and give me a hint of what kind of magic it could possibly hold, magic was used to preserve this so I can tell you one thing” She flipped the blade and pressed her lips into a smile, “This is definitely something you either want to throw away or keep.” There was so many meanings underlying her words, and it didn’t help that Malva had a mischievous glint in her bright hues. Upon hearing that he likes to trace down old remnants of the war, she frowned slightly, “You know that could be interpreted as either very reckless and dangerous, or the opposite, right? Finding artefacts is fine, grimoires, talismans maybe… but don’t go looking too deep, you won’t like what you find, Wyatt.” And she can promise him that. Sometimes, it was nice to see young blood scourging but there were times when she also had to be sure they know their boundaries and lines; lines they shouldn’t cross.
“People of the old days have many unsettled… woes. And that anger resides… until today. Be careful, be very mindful of what you come across and what you seek.” It was fine to be so curious but curiosity did killed the cat. He was definitely prodigal, that much she could identify. “How old are you, exactly? Pardon me but most diviners only live to be 120 to 140. At least, those I’ve met. Unless they’re under the help of an immortality spell, a spell one really shouldn’t have” she narrowed her hues at him scrutinizingly, don’t get her wrong, she wasn’t accusing him, of course she knew who has the spell and who doesn’t, she made sure it was erased from every grimoire any diviner ever produced, there was a reason why they had an Aspect of Life, after all. “No, they don’t. Can’t say I blame them either, older spellworks that dated from the 17th century and back is a bit tricky. Modern Latin and Old Latin is not the same, unfortunately. And you know the thing about spells, one simple slight misstep and boom, you’re off the rails. It’s no problem if it doesn’t backfire on you with its volatility. But what of the more… darker ones?” She shrugged, really it was every person for themselves.
They are the ones who chose it that way. She was, in no way, obliged to do anything about it. “South America? Clever, that’s a spot you can pretty much scour for connective magic.” Voodoos did come from that after all, it was fun until someone forgot the close the gates. “So your cousin has quite the backstory, got it. I can understand why others may not trust her, coven leaders are… conspicuous so to say. And well, most expect them to be spotless. But, there are times to push away the bad and accept the good for the better future. Out with the old and in the new, right?” He wasn’t wrong, when everything falls, the only thing every diviner had in common was magic. It was in their very core. “Then don’t share them. Some may even say they’re ready but they don’t know what they’ll face. Temptation is a very dangerous thing for us, Wyatt. It draws you in and it whispers into your ear with sweet nothings, promising so much potential.
All of that is a good deal, until it starts becoming addicting. Getting addicted to magic is never a good sign.” And of course, Malva had all the experiences she could relate to that. “Don’t worry, I’m not interested in any gathering” she grinned, “For now.” She’ll probably pay a visit sooner than later but nobody needs to know that. Just like nobody needs to know she’s the Aspect of Magic. She held the blade in her hand and took his arm with her free one before making a clean cut, she is a doctor so it helps to know where all the important arteries are located at. Letting his blood drip in front of her and onto the tapestry, she dropped his hand and stared at the piece while murmuring a few words, clearly it was not documented in any grimoires except her own, because it only takes any vengeful diviner that wanted to eradicate someone else’s entire line. "Now we wait. Say your name, your full name. If the tapestry lit up on fire then you're not it but if the blood gathers around in the middle of it while forming your family crest or insignia, then you're it."
Wyatt watched as the blade easily pierced his skin causing the dark droplets of his blood to appear. Strange that most would find this rather odd when it was almost an everyday thing for him to do. Such was the world of magic and giving one's life source was just another aspect of being a diviner. He in fact favored this blade which Malva also seemed to admire as much as he did and always kept it sharp to use in his spellwork. As the blood moved over the tapestry, his eyes glanced up to hers as she told him the necessary step in order to complete the magic. Frankly, he thought this would all be for nothing, but he enjoyed seeing a new spell regardless. He cleared his throat and smirked slightly. "Wyatt Brookes."
At first nothing happened and at any moment he expected the tapestry to slowly burn, but then the blood began to move. "No way..." Wyatt whispered as he watched the droplets spread out and begin to form the design of his family's crest. His brow furrowed in confusion. Wyatt had done endless amounts of research on his family and had never come across anything that indicated there was any royal connection. Of course, he also was constantly running into roadblocks as well. His parents had kept secrets from him that he would never get to inquire about now that they were dead. Perhaps it was because he had always assumed it was the diviner side, his father's side of his family, that was cause for all the drama. He should've been looking into his human mother's line instead. "I don't believe it."
His wide eyes met hers which held a new found confusion. "Sorry, this is all a little much." Wyatt stood up and glanced down to the tapestry again. "It seems I'm finding out something new about my family way too often and it tends to leave me with more questions." Folding his arms over his chest, he paced a bit behind the chair he had just been sitting on, shaking his head with a scoff. His mind drifted back to her question of his age. Something he tried not to think too much about when it came to surface. His father had mentioned the possibility of living forever when his parents came to that part of their lives when he would undoubtedly stop aging in appearance when his human mother would physically grow old. Conrad and he had done hours of research on spells and artifacts that would keep Melinda young and defying death even though she had wanted to live a normal, mortal life. That of course never happened, but Wyatt did not let that research go to waste, nor did he intend to stop. "One-hundred and six," he said softly. "Though my grandfather enjoyed telling me that he was close to two-hundred years old when I was a boy. Obviously I found birth certificates that said otherwise, but who knows if that was even authentic. Starting to wonder if I should've been paying more attention to his crazy stories of royalty and forgotten magic."
His gaze wandered back towards the blood crest and then to the blade Malva had placed back on the table. Was his aptitude for magic somehow connected to this royal bloodline? He supposed those in royalty and high stations may have more access in the world when it came to magic, so perhaps that was why it came so easily to him. Maybe it ran in his family somehow. Wyatt sat back down in the chair and picked up the blade, glancing it over as if it was new to him. He'd been able to read other objects before and whether it had a light or dark aura, but he'd never really tried to determine the actual spellwork that had been used on one before. "What kind of magic it could hold," he said quietly, repeating the words she had said before. Wyatt looked up to meet her eyes for a moment before closing his own and breathing out a sigh as he concentrated on the origins of the knife.
Malva wasn't foreign when it comes down to spilling blood for magical purposes, her coven had formerly focused on traditional magic but when she took up the mantle as the Aspect of Magic, she began studying about connective magic which is slightly off the course with blood magic, an area she probably shouldn't be trifling with, especially when her magic is at the stake of falling apart. Her sapphire blue hues never left the glistening blade that pierced Wyatt's palm, she only stayed at the blood in bemusement and retrieved the blade back. It was a fine blade, and Malva is anything if not a collector of antiquity; especially blades. When the tapestry burns, she only snickered because the look on Wyatt's face was priceless, a moment she would definitely want to capture because he was flustered. "There you have it," she pointed out humorously, "Most people are not keen to find out about their ancestry because things are a bit mixed up back then but it's interesting how far it stretches out.
Royals keep it closer, a tight knit relationship between one another or nemesis. It's one or the other." She wasn't really surprised considering plenty of royals kept their mouth shut and often suppressed their abilities. When Wyatt expressed his shock by saying he doesn't believe it, the Aspect of Magic shrugged casually and raised her hands above, "Believe what you believe, Wyatt. I don't have much room to lie." It's always nice to find out new things about your family but at times, they needed to be cautious and mindful while delving. "106? That's quite a while. I'm guessing you've been using a lot of that time to the best of your ability in your travels?" she enquired curiously, she hasn't met many who lived above a hundred and still thrive like this. Mostly because they know in 20 to 40 years, they're going to dessicate and die because tick tock tick tock, time's up.
"Immortality isn't a sore subject to talk about when it comes down to immortals, though diviners never achieved that, don't they?" There was a small hint in her undertone, she knew there were questionable people running around, prodigal children who managed to come close to the immortality spell but the Ailward made sure that didn't happen. A shame but it is a measure that needed to be carried out. One can never have too much power without knowing the means to a balance, after all. The moment she caught his eyes focusing intently on the blade, Mal had a wry smile to her, "Witch Codex 101, lesson number #1, we have plenty of items that can be used to store our magical properties, the energy, it served diviners good use for a conduit throughout the centuries. Gems, blades, those things that brings about current that would not escape elsewhere. Pretty much a conductor and the likes. So the magic stored must be one part of the many" she quipped and started listing down certain parts of the magical forms she knew has been used for channeling.
"Ancestral magic and connective magic are the best two forms, though the first one hasn't been used by many because that ties you down to coven matters and sometimes vengeful spirits wander by. Too complicated. Connective, however, that's a small form of voodoo right there. The answer is in between these two." She guided his hand over the blade and pressed it, "Feel the mass. Magic is just like everything else. It had flavors. Don't be afraid to get it wrong, you keep on training, that's what makes you good at the end of the day."
Wyatt let her smaller hand move to his and guide it over the metal of the blade. He smirked at her words and lifted his head to catch her gaze. "Ah, you don't know me, so you wouldn't understand how incredibly hard-headed I am when it comes to magic. I've always needed to be the best at it. Had to know how to perform every spell when it got into my hands. Sort of runs in the family, I suppose. My father would always encourage me and I guess it was a kick in the ass that I always enjoyed. It was a pressure that made me become so passionate about any and everything diviner related. Training is all I ever do." His eyes landed on his mess of a desk that had stacks of books and research papers.
He could feel the warmth begin to spread on his hand slightly as if there was a pulsing rising from the knife. It made his brow furrow slightly before raising. That was new. He'd, of course, seen spells that would store a person's magic and had done one of his own on the stone he currently wore around his neck, but it never really occurred to him to read the power of others' treasures. The things he procured were always for the magic that could enhance his own or just to have in his very nice collection, but never had he thought to see where the item had been since its creation. Maybe even learn of the previous owner's powers too. He was so busy trying to use the items for his spells that he never stopped to see who was the person who gave it magic in the first place. The most he would feel after using the conduit was the aftertaste of whether the diviner was a fae or necromancer. Perhaps in learning more, Wyatt could produce more of its magic.
His fingertips reached for the stone amulet that lay against his chest which always seemed to thrum lowly against him. Lifting it, his eyes met hers before looking down to it. It was something his father had given him many years ago and that day was burned into his memory as if it were yesterday. It was a reminder to always be aware that despite the knowledge and power one thought they possessed, to never feel completely invincible. It served as a protective measure if something were to go horribly wrong and thankfully, Wyatt had never faced such a wrong. Yet.
In his absentmindedness, the diviner released the necklace before looking back to Malva. "To answer your question before, yes, I do travel a lot in my spare time. How others don't want to travel and see the rest of the world, I'll never understand. It's a good thing I'm not human or I could never hold down a job. All I would think is that there's a clock slowly ticking away as my life ended and I didn't get to see it all as it hit zero. Hell, I feel like that now. Time is fleeting. There's never enough of it. Even with the power of teleportation and magic in general, I still will never have enough time." It was the most exhausting feeling in the world. Being a powerful diviner and not having the ability to live forever. At least for now. It was something he still was determined to cheat and he knew it was possible. His research, along with his father's, would lead him to where he needed to go. Wyatt was sure of it. "Don't you ever feel like that?"
The moment he told her that, she knew there was something familiar that she saw in him the first time she laid her eyes on the male; the criteria of her apprentices. Malva doesn't just take anyone to be her apprentice, she has a reputation to uphold and her family basically controls the most ancient and mysterious organization in the world, so obviously she will need to put a certain value of secrecy somewhere. "You have potential, Wyatt" she mused lightly and smiled before flicking the blade gently, "That's not a lie. But so did many other diviners I've met in my fair share of lifetime. Prodigal witches are… 1 in a 100, if you have to count. But what makes them special is the 1 in a 1000. There's of course, another stage. On what makes them unique, now that's 1 in a million." So far, she hasn't met anyone quite like the other. "Every prodigal witch has this fire burning inside them. My job is to kindle it, to nurture it. But even I can't see where they will go."
Malva saw the look of fascination and curiosity in his eyes, which made her grin, "Magic is endless. You can't cut it off completely. Without magic, immortality wouldn't be a thing. Supernaturals wouldn't exist. It's nature. The more you learn about it, the more you'll understand that you're surrounded by endless supply of it." The amulet he wore, she could see a protection charm encased in the stone, "Is that a family heirloom? I can see a protection charm in it, alongside a few other things." She may not be at her strongest, even Malva had her weaknesses but nobody knew when she's weak unless she shows it, but it doesn't mean the Aspect of Magic couldn't sense magic when it's near. "Clever, most diviners can be… a little bit prideful and arrogant, I don't think they ever learned about protection spells or charms. It's very important, especially if you make an enemy. Or enemies. Of course, spells can only last for so long. The effects will soon waver as time turn to dust."
Her eyes softened considerably upon hearing his piece, he is passionate in what he does, that much she could see, "That's why diviners are not blessed with immortality. You'll never stop until you reach to the ends of Earth. Of course, there is a spell for that. But such a spell is not without a price, and it's not worth it." She kept it locked away in her codex, cloaking it with enough protection seeing as it was her brother's duty to gift them. No one should have the advantage for that on their own. "Do I ever feel like time is moving too fast for me? Yes. Do I feel like I haven't learned enough? Possibly. But will I cringe at the thought of death welcoming me? Not exactly. At least, once I've served my purpose, then it shouldn't be a problem. But I don't want to go with a heavy heart filled with regrets. You shouldn't either. So what is it that you want, Wyatt? There must be something you're looking to achieve."
Wyatt listened intently as she spoke. Every word she said made him even more and more curious about her. 'Who is this woman?' There was something else about her that he couldn't quite put his finger on, but her mysterious nature was just making him want to pick her brain. The way she said he had potential and talking of prodigal witches.. Perhaps she was a teacher of some sort. It would not surprise him in the least if she was because the little bit of writings he did get to see in her journal were far more advanced types of magic than he'd seen in a long time. She had already shown she had the ability to do ancestral magic without breaking a sweat.
As Malva pointed out his amulet, Wyatt smiled softly at the compliment she gave. Really, it was to his father who was the most powerful diviner he’d ever known. It was no doubt the reason he’d fallen in love with being fae in the first place. Magic was everything. The passion that flowed through Conrad, passed to Wyatt, but perhaps even more so than his father. After all, they had traveled the world together in their research, but their methods had always been legal. The same couldn’t be said for Wyatt and honestly, he would never stop. Having the charms on the necklace would no doubt help to keep him safe and even though she spoke of time causing the spells imbued on the amulet to fade, he had found a way to keep them going longer than what would probably be normal. Wyatt didn’t have much of anything left that belonged to his parents and he wasn’t going to let this necklace become nothing more than a normal piece of jewelry. It was one of the most precious things he owned.
The fae’s ears perked up as she casually mentioned that there was indeed a spell for immortality. The way she said it was like saying the sky was blue. It was a simple and passing thought; As if she didn’t just admit to knowing something that could change the lives of people that were worthy enough to have it. He didn’t care what the price was, Wyatt needed to know what Malva knew, but something in the way she said it made it seem like it wouldn’t be so easy to find out and he didn’t want to let on that he desperately wanted to learn.
“Achieve?” Wyatt was a little taken aback by the question, but thought about it while he swallowed the excitement of knowing she might have answers to immortality. Despite his extended life, he’d never really thought of the end game. What did he want to achieve in his life? Power? Sure, but it wasn’t to be used in a way that would gain him notoriety or to find himself in a powerful position over other people. “Protection,” Wyatt said a moment later. “I want to be able to protect the coven, always, and I also want to protect magic itself. The lives of diviners was not always so harmonious as you know. I want to make sure nothing like what happened to us before the comet fell happens again. No more fae and necromancers squabbling or having all out war. Whether it’s here or anywhere in the world. So much magic was lost to time because of our fighting. It’s part of the reason Kaelyn has put me in charge of finding these grimoires and texts because she understands why I do it. We could’ve been so much more, but how can we learn if we don’t know where we’ve been? What we’ve done?” His gaze caught hers as he finished. “Does that make sense? Is this some type of test?” A small smirk formed on his lips as he tried to pull out more information about her true identity. “Who are you? Really?”
She was sure by now, he would’ve been curious about her identity, no one would talk about immortality and magic this casual if it’s not her. She hasn’t even disclosed any of those spells to even the closest people she had under her belt, it was too much of a temptation for diviners. Whether they were light or dark, it only takes one way to see what they truly want to achieve hence why Malva wanted to see what he’s trying to achieve, was it power? He does look ambitious but not too malevolent. She wondered what he’s looking for. Malva doesn’t usually go out her way to help just anyone, some people may say she’s a bit picky when it comes to that, and perhaps she is but then again if you were going to pick an apprentice, of course, you would want to pick the best. The protection charm on the amulet was a complex spell, it feels as if she could see the ropes tied around it, it was fascinating to see someone holding onto something quite old. But then again he said it was a family heirloom, which makes sense.
Wyatt was slowly picking on her interest but there was also something else she wanted to see from him; everyone had expectations, she wasn’t excluded from the bunch either. Mal was staring at him with a careful expression the entire time, up to when she talked about the immortality spell and the time she asked him a question on what he seeks out the most. “Mhmm, achieve. I mean, everyone wants something. I simply want to know what do you want the most, is all.” “Protection?” she raised her eyebrows in a questioning manner, wondering what he was going to elaborate on that. The Aspect of Magic had to admit, this wasn’t the first time she’s heard such an answer but his, sounded a lot different than most of the people she’s interviewed before. Much like a job interview, he held that charisma and enigmatic energy to him that successfully grasped her attention.
Hearing his answer on wanting to protect his coven and the people he cared for was not unusual for her, but the moment he talked about magic, that’s when any trace of boredom dissipated, “Wanting to protect people… it’s a noble reason, but at the end of the day, once you gained access to insurmountable energy, you will forget about it because you would feel the responsibility to protect everyone. But-” she clicked her tongue and pointed at him with a playful look etched on her face, “wanting to preserve the best interest of magic overall? That’s new. I’ve never heard of someone who would want to do that, it makes me wonder what do you plan to do in order to ‘achieve’ that. But I won’t ask. It’s a wide concept, after all.”
He wasn’t wrong, people lost so much access to magic because of the reckless and unnecessary war they had. They could’ve used the opportunity to work together and find more, but their arrogance became their greatest downfall of all times. “You forget… sometimes, not everything has to make sense, Wyatt” she quipped wryly, “sometimes you just have to believe that it makes sense. Somewhere, in that twisted reality, it could be a reality. You’ll be surprised to know how much power one’s will has on yourself.” When he asked her who she was, she decided she was probably tired of kicking around the cradle, “I’m someone most people thought to be a myth in the magical world. Someone who’s been overseeing the development of magic all these centuries and is responsible to manage the flow of it in order to keep the balance. Someone you wouldn’t believe… existed. Can you take a guess?”
Wyatt studied her face as she replied to him. More vagueness and riddles to him, but he still felt like she was probing him for answers. He wondered what it was Malva might be looking for. He'd been around for a long time and had met many people, but she was much harder to read than most. It only deepened the mystery more. Wyatt didn't mind. Wyatt would have this woman sitting in his living room for as long as she liked if there was a chance to keep picking her brain about magic. It was so rare to find a person who had advanced as far as she had and he didn't want to let the opportunity pass him by to hopefully get to know her better.
Her response to his inquiry on her real identity only made his brow raise in confusion. More riddles it seemed was in the works. A smirk pulled at his lips as he leaned forward on his knees to look at her. "I think you're enjoying this a little." Wyatt replayed the words in his head, trying to decipher the hints she gave. The immediate thing that sent alarms off was the mentioning that she was overseeing the development of magic for centuries. Centuries?! He was back to feeling the excitement rush through him at the slightest hint of something towards immortality.
The silence fell between them for a moment as Wyatt held her gaze still. He didn't really want to say what was on his mind because it would sound somewhat ridiculous, then of course there had been the hints Kaelyn had dropped about some of the ambassadors that were part of Evermore. He wasn't sure his cousin really knew all about the other leaders herself and it had only been a short amount of time since her move to leadership. Wyatt wasn't stupid either. He knew there were others out in the world that were far more powerful than the average supernatural walking the streets.
His eyes were unwavering on hers as the puzzle pieces began to fit into one another and even though the words were on his lips, it was difficult to say them out loud. Rumors and whispers of a being who kept magic in balance. Wyatt had heard there were more than a few roaming the Earth that all had a charge to certain elements of the world. They were expected to guard them and ensure there was never a tip in the scales. Wyatt wet his lips and almost expected the laugh from her to come after, but he said it allowed anyway. "You're an aspect. The aspect of magic."
She was truly having fun with all of these. Malva was generally a youthful person, though her gaze would hold in a lot of secrets that you wanted to gauge. Had it not been due to her playful and slightly mischievous antics, she could pass off as anyone older than thirty, even if maturity is not measured in age. The Aspect of Magic has been in this position of hers for a millennium, give or take, she’s always been the child in the family too, which was a bit weird considering how age-wise, she was the eldest sister. That’s probably the best part of it all. Here, Mal was giving someone with the potential, to know about what she does better. After all, she’s had plenty of apprentices scattered all over the world in the past centuries, aside from the diviners in the Guard.
Maybe it was time she found a new apprentice that she could teach, it’ll also help her progress in certain parts of the magic she’s long abandoned too. Honestly, it was a win-win situation for her. “I can’t say that I’m not having my fun with this, it is fun, mind you” she scowled playfully and chuckled, “You can’t always put yourself up so seriously, it breaks all the fun and it reminds me of just how old I am then. I hate to think that I’m older, no person would like being reminded of their age.” Though she’s walked this earth longer than most, with her family, it was hard to believe she doesn’t look a day older than 23. But that wasn’t taking into account Argent who looks younger than her too. Her gaze was unwavered as he continued to probe his own mind to rake in whatever information he had, no doubt attempting to piece them together from the hints she’s given too.
Once the answer slithered out, Mal pressed her lips together to form a grin and clicked her tongue, “Bingo~ There you go, wasn’t so hard, was it? I gave plenty of hints” she teased. Sure, there were some who managed to outlive their own intended life-span, but even then, they weren’t allowed to go pass another century because the Aspect of Magic wouldn’t have it since it directly defies the laws of nature. That’s where she steps in, basically. “Are you surprised?” she asked curiously, propping her chin on top of her hand as she stared at him with newfound curiosity. “I know I don’t look like her but yeah, this is me. Not many know of me, not even your cousin, and she’s an ambassador” she mused, the Ailwards exists, every ambassador in the city knew that but not everyone could actually memorize how they look like, unless you’re friends with them.
