Caleb felt lucky that over the last twenty-four months he had acquired friends that helped him when his past came back to bite him. During those times, he often secluded himself in his studio with a weeks supply of food and just hid himself in paint and canvas. It was often Ridley or Artemitra who would find him on Thursday with messy hair and surrounded by colorful mess. It was Wednesday and Caleb could barely remember how long he'd been sequestered in his tiny haven. His fingers were clutched around a wooden paintbrush as a yawn escaped his mouth. The black paint smoothed it's way over the linen and stuttered near the ending. He was tired and the art he was currently making reflected that, but still he continued, despite the struggle. The strokes began to sag as the muscles in his arm began to fall asleep. Caleb's eyes drifted shut and slipped against the cool tile of the floor, content to sleep, despite the strange circumstance. Hours passed and the early afternoon light slipped into sunset and then nightfall, before stars transformed into a colorful sunrise that Caleb would have loved to paint if he'd not been snoozing on the floor from forcing himself into hours of work. It must have looked pretty ridiculous to the passers who could see in the window and see the young artist fast asleep atop his recent work. Thursday morning and a persistent knock on the door hesitantly raised him from his steady slumber. As Caleb sat up and rubbed his eyes, spreading paint dust across his cheekbones, he peered through the glass into the two faces who routinely found him here. Rising and thankful he'd taken a shower yesterday, he unlocked the door and let them into the studio. "Bonjour, mes amis...." A dark red color decorated his face, as he stared into the concerned faces of his friends. This was becoming far too routine for them to find him like this.

With them being on holiday and a long road ahead of them. Artemis was feeling quite hungry. So why not have a big breakfast? “I’ll have coffee, bacon sandwiches, sausages. Later pancakes, with mixed berries.” She gave her order. The Celestial needed some coffee to function. Especially if she was driving. Leaning against her seat, she relaxed. Taking in the atmosphere of the small cafe, that they found. “You know, I think I’ve drove past this place once or twice before. Never occurred to me to ever come in here.” She mused, maybe more to herself. But she was sure even her friends had that one spot, they didn’t think about entering before; until a certain occasion rose. It wasn’t just her. Was it?
As everyone’s breakfast arrived. Artemis bit into her bacon sandwich. Letting out a slight moan, at how good and crispy the bacon tasted. As unhealthy as bacon was;it tasted so darn good.
“Swimming. Wherever we go...there needs to be either a pool, or a lake...or something.” Artemis told Ridley. It’s been a long time, since the Celestial had been swimming. It was a pleasure, she needed again. And what better time for it, than on vacation? “Maybe also somewhere with some historical background.” Artemis certainly wanted to experience a bit of culture and sight-seeing. If they were close by, to somewhere with a small historic town or city.
As they ate, their breakfast. Artemitra licked her lips slightly. Absorbed in the conversation with Ridley. When she could hear light snapping from the camera. Turning to look at Cal. Her mouth was full of bacon sandwich and she rose a slight eyebrow. Looking amused; that he stole Ridley’s camera. After swallowing, she shook her head.
“On dirait que notre copain français se transforme en voleur de caméras.” The Celestial spoke teasingly, in Cal’s mother tongue. Shaking her head with a laugh.
Translation: “Looks, like our french buddie, is turning into a camera thief.”
“You’ve been quiet.” Nudging him with her foot, under the table. Artemis smiled. “Anything specific you wanna do on holiday?” she questioned. Wondering what Caleb had on his to-do list. Picking up her cup, she took a sip of her coffee.
Ridley ordered a side of sausage with her mixed fruit pancakes, with extra fruit on the side in a bowl. Ridley sipped her tea and talked away with Mitra agreeing that there needed to be swimming on this little adventure of theirs. Ridley was happy with her trio, Ridley Mitra, and Cal; though it did make her miss her original trio more sometimes Aster, and Jemma (Needed a name).
Ridley snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her own camera “ah” she shrieked and tried to hide her face, if one thing Ridley enjoyed taking the photos not having them taken of her. Ridley always thought she would never be camera ready. She wasn’t a typical girl who needed make up and such she just got up put her hair up and away she went.
“Thief.” she stuck out her tongue at the man. Before picking up an apple slice. “I think history, swimming, something I can take photos of, and time with you two is perfect for me. I'm sure we can squeeze in Cal’s idea as well.” She said in a teasing tone.
The nearest beach was a few days away, but Caleb didn't mind the drive. Usually, there were interesting things on the way to discover and roadtrips had been the original way that he saw a lot of America and immersed himself in a new culture. It had even been how he'd found Evermore. He had to admit that the travel bug was biting again and excitement was stimming and causing him to hurry through the pancakes that had been delivered, no matter how delicious the warm peaches were. He smiled as the poloaroid slipped from the camera and caught it before it floated into a well of syrup on his plate. Indeed, Ridley's surprised eyebrows told the story of a girl being interuppted in the middle of her breakfast. As a big brother would, he teased. "I love it. I will keep it forever and paint this likeness to hang in my gallery." A smirk decorated his face as he folded the picture and put it in his upper pocket, knowing only momentarily there would be a power grab that would uproot their table through laughter and desperation.
The moment Ridley shrieked, trying to hide from the camera. The Celestial threw her head back, in fits of giggles. “Oh god, Riddles.” she shook her head in amusement. “You really need some good pictures, girl.” she told her. It was always a pain, trying to get good photos with Ridley. It took a lot of persuasion, or you had to be sneaky about it; which could prove to be a challenge. Even if The Celestial would tell her friend, a gazillion times she looked fine and camera ready; Ridley still would put up an argument against the whole picture being taken.
She sipped on her drink, as The Diviner seemed to be in agreement with her suggestions. Seeing how fast Caleb was eating, she laughed. “Slow down, Cal.” she shook her head smiling. “We got time.” There was no need to rush; she didn’t need one of her besties choking, on food cause he was too excited.
The fact Caleb had to tease Ridley about the photo, Made the Celestial smile. “I might need a copy.” she giggled.
Artemis felt at ease, due to the laughter and banter that had filled their table.Spending time with her close friends, was much needed. And honestly, she couldn’t wait to find the nearest sea, river or lake and take a long dip and swim. As she finished off her savory portion of the breakfast. She let the food sit on her stomach for a bit; before she started to tuck into her pancakes.
Ridley’s eyes went wide as Caleb teased about painting the snapshot, he had gotten of her. “Oh, don’t you even dare Brother dearest!” She said and eyed him while she ate her food. Shaking her head as he all but inhaled his food, she went wide-eyed again. “Oh, my goodness were you raised in a barn!” She teased and reached over to block his plate with her hand to try and slow him down.
Ridley’s giggles joined in with her friends as she nibbled on some more of her fruit. Ridley was glad to have these two in her life with all that had been happening in the city recently and the adventures she had with Wyatt, this getaway was beyond needed. A break from the wackiness that had been going on.
Was just Ridley or did Evermore seem to attract more ‘Wackiness’ than any normal city on the frigging planet? The stories the diviner had heard and seen on her adventures with Wyatt told her that there was so much throughout the world but it seemed like everything steamed back to Evermore somehow.
