Being back to the place that he had grown to call home came with a new set of challenges. He left a lot of people behind with very little to no words. He knew most wouldn’t blame him after all word of your family's death can shake even the most logical person to their core. So when it came to getting his world set back up he knew he would have to make some apologies. Jae was one of them. He left in the middle of training him. Their contect had been almost nonexistent.
Donovan showed up at the Dojo using the back entrance wanting to not make a show of his return. He figured this would be the best place to catch Jae would be the Dojo if he continued his training. Catching out the corner of his eye the young dhampir he took under his wing he smirked. Moving over to him, in a playful manner Donovan pushed Jae to the wall and had his dagger from his hand. “Remember how to get out of this?” He asked in a joking manner.

He chuckled and pressed his lips together “I guess you don’t realize how lucky you are when you’re raised with freedom, most kids I grew up alongside weren’t even allowed to choose their own careers” honestly it had almost gone that way for Jae too, his father had always been very selective and opinionated when it came to his children. He nodded slightly “Even that can be challenging, it’s normal to want others to approve of your choices” and to purposely go against them felt even more wrong.
Jae couldn’t hide the smile on his lips, the idea of being someone’s family and someone saying it with such pride was almost foreign “I’ll do my best not to let you down” he wanted to be someone here in Evermore and he wanted to carve his own direction. Jae laughed when the other male started playing the part of a zombie, shaking his head playfully “That has to be the one legend I’m really glad isn’t true” everything else supernatural seemed to exist, but not zombies.
Jae smiled, journals had always been a good way for him to express his creativity and get everything down on paper when he wasn’t sure how to process what he was thinking “I think I’ve got a long way to go before I’m writing any hits but…thanks” he nudged into his side slightly where his arm was around him “I’ll make sure to bring an autographed copy to your future concert” he teased implying the other male could be just as successful.
Jae raised his brows a little surprised “Really?” he wasn’t really used to kindness if he was honest, he was used to struggling by himself for most things “I won’t abuse it too much” he commented and press his lips together to stifle his grin. Jae turned towards him, noticing the sad air and offered a comforting expression, gently reaching to squeeze the other male’s shoulder “As hard as things are, no one would want you to be sad forever, so it’s okay to try and find things that make you happy now” he was sure that’s what his loved ones would want.
Jae pressed his lips together and nodded “It’s pretty easy to say you should only care about yourself but..” easier said than done right? “I care about what the people I care about think…” and despite the fact that at time his family could be strict and even perhaps toxic, he couldn’t help but want to be good in their eyes. The young dhampir smiled just a little and nodded when Donovan patted his shoulder “I don’t really have the first idea about chasing dreams but…I’m trying” he was still young, there was room to make mistakes and figure things out “Have you followed your dreams?” he questioned curiously.
Jae pulled a face when the elder male pointed out that zombies could possibly exist “I think I’d rather convince myself they don’t” he mumbled under his breath “The last thing we need is zombies who can’t be reasoned with running around here, species that can be reasoned with are trouble enough” Jae had made sure to do his homework on all the species that resided in Evermore in order to be prepared should he need to protect humans.
He nodded slightly when Donovan pointed out that they had the luxury of time where others didn’t “I’m guessing that means your switch is on” he mumbled softly, Jae had never switched his, currently he was aging the same as any human and honestly he was hesitant to do so, picking what age you wanted to stay for an extended time was…challenging, especially at his age where a lot of people didn’t take him seriously.
Jae bit his lip softly as he listened to the other male talk “If one’s thing for sure, you shouldn’t rush anything, especially when you’re feeling emotional” Jae had made a habit in the past of making snap decisions off the back of his own impatience “I’m trying to get better at that, things just move so quickly if you don’t apply the brakes…you know” and Jae was good at getting himself thrown into situations like that. Perhaps because he was curious about anything and everything which meant he couldn’t stay quiet.
“Have you thought about franchising, or is one bar enough for your sanity”
